Fake of Not?

Steve,
I guess it all depends where the buyers are. I bought my Infinium on E-bay and two GPS units. The GPS units were
discounted models, so the price was great and the Infiniium was not in high demand so that was a good deal at the time too.
I guess gold shows or coin shows might be a good place to sell nuggets.
Rich

That is a very nice specimen. Where do you reccomend selling gold in quartz? And how would you price it? I've had a large and hefty piece for years that I found below an old mine containing electrum [ the literature indicates probably 60% gold 40% silver not counting the quartz and any other impurity]. Not nearly as pretty as yours.

It sure looks real and if it is it sure wasn't dug up by the guy holding it....... those are the cleanest, non calloused hands i've ever seen. I'm sure they've never seen a pick or a shovel.:drinking:
Joe

Hah- haw: Do not clean or post it on a forum or show photos of it. There are "high rollers" that are most willing
to buy it "as found" and not advertied and wish/need to show a "as found" nugget that 'they found' for many
reasons. :heh:

I have done very well selling specimens on the Internet, but for me the best way has been to put it out there with a price and hold firm. It may take a year or two but eventually somebody comes through with the price I want. Which usually is market price by weight, quartz and all.

I couldn't comment as already saw pics years ago and knew it was real.Anyhow in your hand so knew it was real that a way also--John

Thanks for the advice Steve. I had been thinking the same thing but wasn't sure. Just use ebay I guess. Can't you use some kind of fish scale and get the weight in air and divide by the weight in water and get the specific gravity? That would maybe give some estimate of the gold content although doesn.t account for the quartz, silver, etc.? Always appreciate your advice.

Yeah people usually want to know the gold content, which you roughly get with a specific gravity test and assay. But pricing a specimen on gold content is like pricing a diamond on carbon content. It is all about carets, cut, color, and clarity. Gold content is important to set a base smelt value but after that it is all about looks.

I am going to list a lot of gold for sale soon and will post when I finally get around to it.

Steve,
I have heard that gold will become legal tender come January 1, 2013 and banks are stocking up. I don't know if that
will raise the value or stabilize the value or how true it is. If so it may be worth more after New Years Day. Just passing
along what I heard.

It lools to me like the gold isn't weathered down as much as the quartz so I am guessing Fake.

Steve,
This thread brings up an interesting question on coils and detectors.
Could you give us some thoughts on the Gold Bug 2 with a 14 inch coil vs. a Fisher Gold Bug Pro with a 5 inch coil.
It seems like the GB 2 with its higher frequency is better on small nuggets, but the Pro goes deeper on larger nuggets.
How far does the larger coil on he GB2 change that equation? I know the larger coil will cover more ground, and the
Pro has a meter. Some comparison thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rich

can't give you the info on the pro but this link will show you what the GB2 coils would do. From what i see it looks like a first sweep with the 6" coil followed by a second sweep with a 14" coil to get the much deeper stuff.....
I have the 6" coil and the 10" coil now and prefer the 6" for surface stuff.
Joe

Hope one of these coils can get me one of those real or not real Nuggets :detecting:

Thanks for the input Joe. Also really true that the best thing to do is to work an area with all available loops
and detectors.
Happy hunting
Rich

Too many variables there. 71kHz Gold Bug 2 with 14" elliptical concentric coil versus 19 kHz Gold Bug Pro with 5" round DD coil. Short story depends on the ground. I would expect the GB2 14" combo to be the better way to go until the ground condition worsens to a certain point, then the GBP 5" combo to be the better choice. Big concentrics a suffer in bad ground. But where the crossover point is would take field testing. Not too many people swinging a 14" on the GB2 but in the mild ground at Ganes it did well.

Good catch Steve....... I'm fairly new at the Gold Bug 2 and i just took it for granted that the 14"Ellipical coil was a DD (I took it for granted all ellipical coils where DD) now you have me wondering what my 6" and my 10" ellipical coils are..... hope they're DD's as i had a minelab with a concentric coil and the ground is very highly mineralized out here in Arizona desert and like you say concentrics are very rough in that type of soil...... my 6" sure acts like a DD but i just scoured the net and couldn't find that answer.
This is a great site for info........thanks
Sorry...Somehow i got way off topic here as this is about that nugget being "fake or not"......... sure hope it'd real :)
Joe

Actually Steve, that was a great answer. I hadn't thought about the mineralization angle. Some food for thought.
Thanks,
Rich

All Gold Bug 2 coils are concentric coils and the superiority of DD coils is a myth so do not let it bother you. All that matter is what works, and the Gold Bug 2 coils work.

Steve Herschbach

Appreciate you clearing that up as i could not find the answer online...... On or near the surface with the 6"coil this thing will find pieces of lead about the size of the tip of a ball point pen easily....remarkable machine for sure. haven't gotten out enough yet to find that first nugget but i will for sure as i'm right now reading the book "Zip Zip" with it's great info..........
I would fall over in disbelief if i ever found the likes of "Is it Real or Not" Nugget...... just being out there is enough reward for me :detecting:
