You made the right choice.I went with the F75+. Had a Simplex for a little while and it was just not a good fit for me. Very good for the price but I did not like the pinpoint and the tones. I just feel like the F75+ has more to offer for me on coins and jewelry hunting. Higher price but more options and at 70 years old the balance is a plus for me also.
Wanted to add a couple of things since this post was dug up. My 2 cents:I have both. I feel well versed with the F75 using it extensively for 2 seasons. I've had my Simplex out maybe 6 or 7 times. I am a parks and schools coin and jewelry hunter. Here are some early impressions on the Simplex compared to my F75 for this type of hunting, and when using a similar coil on the F75, ie the stock coil.
The F75 gives tighter, more repeatable VDIs for me. This is a little improved with the recent software updates on the Simplex to its current verion of 2.77 at the time of this post. I even posted a question on the Simplex forum about what modes people found to give the best VDIs, because it was noticeable to me.
The Simplex and the F75 share the same degree of susceptibility to EMI in my experience at a particularly bad park around me.
The tone selection for coin hunting is better on the F75. I prefer using 4H. With the latest update, the Simplex in what they call Park modes, gives 3 tones. There are 2 sub-park modes with one having the high tone break right where the crossover between a fresh zinc starts to blend into a copper penny. The other park mode has the high break much lower and doesn't fit well with US currency. There is no nickel notched-in high tone on the Simplex like in the F75 4H mode.
I rarely dig deeper than 6 or 7 inches, with most of my finds at 3-4 inches. Detection and discreetness of the signal on the Simplex is as good as the F75 at these depths.
Wireless headphones and the tones otherwise on the Simplex are good in quality. No flute like sounds. Nice beeps. It has a rechargeable battery that so far has great life. There is even a vibration setting and an LED light aimed at the ground available to use.
Ergonomically, I prefer the F75. You can't beat the trigger pinpoint design, in my opinion. I don't know why every detector doesn't use it. The buttons on the Simplex are really hard to push. I mean really hard. I believe it likely is due to its waterproof nature, which is a bonus over the F75, and one of the reasons I wanted it for lakes and streams. Balance and weight seem similar for stock coils. The Simplex is really easy to collapse into a really small size, which is helpful. It uses cam locking instead of the button and hole design to lock the shafts on the F75.
Both have easy to read screens. I prefer the dial and push button on the F75 over multiple buttons on the SImplex control face.
In the end, I prefer the controls and the tones settings on the F75 better for my style of hunting. The Simplex shines in its price, waterproof nature, and collapsible portability, so I consider it complementary to my F75. It is a very capable detector. Hard to call it a beginner model after using it. The company is responsive to user comments and requests, and has released firmware updates to address issues. So in the future, maybe there will be further modes or tone adjustments.
I’m not sure how boost process affects the different tone options on the f75. Even though it’s very nice that you can use it over any tone selection. You can’t on the t2. I will say that boost process on my t2 at 70 sensitivity is about the same depth as 2 tone cranked up.Altho I have not tried it on my F75 Ltd SE, would not going into Boost mode regain the depth???
Amen on boost mode in the woods. I usually got 4-8” of pine straw to kick out of the way over a scratchy target then it sounds nice. I have a detech ultimate and it’s Smokin deep but I never use it. I like the stock coil just fine. I’ve considered the Cors 12.5x8.5 or the 12x13. Love the 12x13 on the Greek machines.Although there is a tad more depth in boost mode, of which I use most of the time, where it really shines is when swinging over taller grass and brush. The air gap between coil and earth gives it the humph to hit targets with the coil several inches above the ground. I really love the mode for woods hunting. The original camo version was a solid 3" deeper in de mode then my DST versions. Boost mode makes up maybe 1 of the 3" difference. The boost mode works with all tone setups on the F 75. As a old coin hunter I am in 3H and 4H tones 99% of the time. HH jim tn
