F5 threshold

you're right Marcomo.

The only thing I'm disappointed in is that I had to send it in. I liked the looks of it and the display is great with all the info you can get from it.
I'll probably keep it for awhile now--Don't know what the cost will be to fix it. I just know I had to fix it before I sell it if that day ever comes.
I still have this terrible urge to buy detectors. buy two, test them and keep the better one.buy another-etc,etc,etc,.
I will probably get stung a little along the way like this one here but life isn't perfect.
I know I am still going to buy the GT but I couldn't get the deal I wanted so it's still in the back of my mind.
I am just going to take my time and have fun testing these out.

I believe part of my trouble with the F5 is my other detector is a T2. You can't compare the two. Yesterday I went out into the yard with the F5 and got a reading from Iron to a Quarter. I started digging in this hard dry dirt and found two 9mm casings, a small buckle and at four inches a token the size of a quarter. I guess I'm expecting too much.

My other detector is an XL PRO but I still want to try this F5 for awhile.
Maybe I will hear from East Texas sometime this week

The F5 is definitely not as sturdy as my old Garrett GTA 500. I have had it for a few months and the earphone jack is a little loose. It is definitely a light machine but is just doesn't feel like a $500.00 machine. I have had minimal luck with it so far in terms of deep coins but I am still learning it and determined. . .pretty disappointed in the overall build quality. Looking forward to trying some of the other coils at some point. I definitely recommend making a protective cover for the screen. I made mine immediately as soon as I saw how flimsy the screen was.

I'm still interested in knowing what they find out about your F5, and how much the estimate is. I may still have to send mine in. What you find out could help me decide.

Maybe the findmall newbie can help with this one - I honestly don't think they're anything wrong with your machine. I've had an F4 for 1.5 years and have never been able to get a steady threshold to ground balance it. The F4 manual says to turn up the sensitivity until you hear a steady hum - I've ALWAYS gotten a broken, jerky, staccato tone to ground tune by. Nothing smooth like the old analog threshold hunting machines. These machines (the F4 and F5) just don't use a threshold to hunt. There are a lot of errors in both manuals for the F4 and F5 (your machine). I would bet all my silver's I found that there is no issue with your machine. It's a documentation error, not the machine. They are silent search machines.

PS- I'm getting my F5 Wednesday woo-hoo!

Hi silverfinger.
The fellow I bought it from said he didn't have that threshold problem and Felix thought it was in the ground balance and asked me what software version I had and when I told him it came up 61 he said to send it in. He would have told me you can't get a low threshold. Can anybody get one with their f5?

The F5 came back to me today with a letter from fisher stating that it had to be repaired and apologized for the inconvenience
There was no phone call or anything from them.
I still thought it was there today when I saw a delivery truck pull up.
They said they replaced the Label, reprogrammed the unit and re-calibrated it.
They also took it out and field tested it to make sure it was working right.
The software was upgraded to 62.
This detector is entirely different now.
For one thing before I sent it back to Fisher I could not turn the gain up very high-it would become erratic.
Now I can turn it up almost all the way and it is picking up targets at 7" and 8".and a couple even more.
Didn't dig any but I will tomorrow and see what the targets turn out to be.
I will try it out tomorrow
