I am going to search a bunch of cleared lots that had late 60s-early 70s houses that were flooded in 2001. The flood control bought the lots and demo'd the houses and cleared the lots in 2005. So the houses only had about 30 years of use. It was a decent neighborhood so there might be some lost jewelry and of course clad. I rarely search demo lots, hunting mostly parks and schoolyards. I plan on bringing the F5- 9inch Teardrop and another coil/rod. Which would be better... the Magic 5X8DD or the Fisher 11DD?

F5 coil choice for 50 year old house demo lot

My experience with demo'd spots is they are typically pretty trashy. Not necessarily tab rings and tails, square tabs, foil and bottle caps trash, but nails, big iron, copper and brass. Hence, the 5 x 8 would be a better choice then the 11". Nothing, seemingly, should be all that deep, either.
Also, you might be surprised on the silver coins. A couple years ago I hunted a airport flyway zone where houses from the early 60's to late 70's were demo'd back in the late 80s'. Over about a year and a half time span I ended up recovering over 100 silver coins from the spot and my hunting buddy had a decent number as well. We kept all the copper and brass, too, and got enough to write out a check to the local dog rescue for $255.00. There was good numbers of clad and several nice jewelry recoveries, too.
Anyway, not intended to hijack your post, but merely to point out some housing development demo'd spots can be surprisingly good....in several different ways.

Interesting selection. I've never used a Magic 5X8 DD or even seen one, so I'm not sure how well it works on the F5. Personally, I've never been a fan of the 11" Double D elliptical coil or the tear drop coils, and I've also never enjoyed using a bigger coil for the types of sites you hunt. And by bigger, I mean anything over about 8" in diameter, and my preference would be a smaller or mid-size coil.
Smaller coils will range from roughly 5" or 6" round shape or something like a small elliptical such as the NEL Snake coil. A mid-size coil, to me, would be something like a round 7" or an elliptical like a 5X8 or 5X91/2 Double-D.
So if your 5X8 works well on your F5, then that's what I would suggest. I don't have that coil in my personal outfit for my F5, but my device keeps a 7" Concentric coil mounted and that's what I would likely search with.
Right now I have permission to hunt two private lots that had a house demo two or three years ago that had been vacant for about 10 years, and the adjacent lot had a house demolished about 8 to 10 years ago. Both of the brick houses dated from the '40 and '50's era. I'm still working those lots that are periodically productive. Through the years I have searched other single or side-by-side Lots, but the last time I had a larger tract of land with demolished houses was in late 1971 and through '72, and from my experiences I concur with jim tn with regard to the type of trash you're likely to encounter, and that most of the trash and coins are going to be relatively shallow. Also, based on the age of the homes, it would be good if you could find driveways and sidewalks and concentrate your search where the better use grassy areas would have been.
Add a good dose of patience and work your detector and coil slowly and methodically to cover the area more efficiently. I wish you the best of success on finding some of the better quality coins.

Thanks for the replies. As Monte suggests a mid sized coil would probably work best, just like it does in parks. The Magic 5x8 works great on the Teknetics Delta 4000 I use for quick park hunts, so I will put that on the F5 and I have a Cors Fortune 9.5x5.5 DD coil I will bring also--just in case.
Now you are getting the how to idea.....yes...a locating larger coil and a smaller coil to clean it up....the bombs hit before the foot soldiers move in and clean it all up.

Cool tip. In trashy areas that will pay up with the 11" coil, you can be sure that the smaller 5" will pick up whatever the bigger coil left behind because of its inability to separate.

I have the Nel Sharpshooter coil I bought in the correct frequency to match my F5...I believe it is the same as your Fortune coil.
In my trash and iron infested sites it is shockingly and extremely effective, much more than anything else I have tried.
Deeper, quieter, much more stable in higher settings, deals with heavy EMI and masking situations insanely well.
Then again the 3 other DD's I tried were not matched in frequency which I believe matters...a lot.
Maybe not so much on other models/brands here and there but on the F5 matching frequencies seems important...in my experience.
In my case most of them were lacking, a waste of time compared to the Nel.
I have 2 concentrics that came with the F5, also, they work pretty good but in my mineralized soil again, not even close to the Nel.
For me the Sharpshooter is THE coil of choice.
Everywhere I hunt, anyway, including and especially in trashed out old home sites as you described.
If your Fortune coil is a match I would be using that, if it isn't but that Magic coil is in my mind that would be the better option.
Masking can be a major issue at old home sites and smaller coils deal with it all better and ultimately will notice and find more than bigger coils.
Again..they always have for me.

If its really a trashy spot like some demo sites typically are, really, the best coil you could use would be the 5" DD. It is like a laser and its depth will astound you. I've used Fishers 11" DD, their 5 x 10" DD, the 10" concentric, the 5" DD and NEL's Sharpshooter, and for heavy trash separation, none excel as well as the 5" DD.
