F-70 First Time in the Field Today (Bad News)

Rissa said:
I would like to know as a beginner that I have invested good money into a machine that performs.........but how as a beginner will I ever know or understand whether or not my Fisher F70 is performing as it should?

Recommendation to a new detectorest would be read the owners manual, and take the unit out hunting.
It looks to me like your trying to read into your learning curve something that most likely doesn't apply to you. 99% of all detectors, from all manufactures perform as they should. Your F70 is a good unit. Take it on out, and enjoy it. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Maybe I do worry to much.....thanks Rissa.......I have read the manual several times and have been out with my unit. Yesterday my wife and I drove to where she lived as a young girl. Looking for a dime she buried. We didn't find the dime but did find a few things on the property. We haven't given up on the dime tho.....a nice gentleman in the community had his garden where the dime was buried so we will go back later.:twodetecting:

Ok,

Thanks to everyone who has been following this post. I got the F-70 back from Fisher today and took it outside to do some testing. All I can say is "WOW" a properly working F-70 is a thing to behold! In the return letter from Fisher's repair lab it stated that they found that my F-70 was indeed need of repair. The LCD screen that was fading was replaced and the coil was also replaced. Total time for the repair was exactly 25 days. When you subtract the days in transit to and from El Paso the total repair took 16 days. Not too shabby!

Anyway, the repaired F-70 is like a totally new machine. Gone is the fading screen and the detector is now stable as a rock with no sign of instability. I was easily able to find the dime I had buried at 8" before the detector was shipped back to Fisher. In fact, I was able to raise the coil several inches and still get a good repeatable signal on the dime with the correct ID using only the default settings. I dug up the dime and dug down to around 12" and dropped in a quarter. I covered everything up and I started playing around with settings a little. I dialed up the sensitivity to 85 and raised the threshold to +3 and in De mode I was able to easily detect the quarter even with the coil nearly 4 to 5 inches off the ground! I know I have already said this once but I will say it again. WOW!! I have been detecting for over 20 yrs and I have never seen this kind of performance from any machine!

Now its off to the field to learn the detector. I'm pumped! Hopefully, I will continue this post with some actual field testing results.

One last thing, I want to thank Mike Scott, Felix, and the rest of the crew at Fisher Labs for the way they handled every aspect of the repair process. Great Job Guys!!

Leo

Leo great to see a happy ending on this. I keep hearing great things about the F70 from those that learn it and didn't get one with a defect.

I'm hoping my F70 arrives today, as I'm planning to give it a work out this weekend.

HH,
Brian
