Explorer SE or E-Trac?

Well...It's snowing again!! Might get the e-trac out again by June!! And I did put goes4ever settings in. Thank you for posting that!

Update everyone...The family decided to keep the E-trac. I am a bit disappointed but have my Explorer SE. Thanks everyone for your kind tips and help! Ted

I used an Explorer II for many years, then bought the ETrac when it came out. My son uses the Explorer II now. We often hunt together, and at times call the other over to check iffy signals to determine if I want to dig. Therefore we are running a continuous comparison of the 2 detectors. I do not think the ETrac shows measurable performance increase over the Explorer, at least in the areas we hunt and how we hunt (parks and fields - coins only). I liked the idea of being able to tune the ETrac, but I have it tuned to a comfortable spot and really don't change it from hunt to hunt. I tend to think the tones of the Explorer are just a bit cleaner/crisper on silver than the Etrac, but that simply could be perception.

I love them both and am happy with them both. If the ETrac had an issue, I would take the Explorer II back without missing a beat. My only thought is the age and condition of the machines. Mine are not abused and are taken care of. If you are looking at a harshly used Explorer that has some age to it, I might have some pause because of age and parts.
