Exclusive photos: new ID EDGE

& very simple & quick, just like the Excel/C$. No auto tracking. Depth was definately better than the Excel, but I want to get a new Edge & run some side-by-sides next to a C$ before I say which may be deeper. Has the same deep all metal mode of course that relic hunters will favor & you can also dial disc back to -36 to hear all metals signal with 4 tones.....

looking at this previous post of mine which are air tests...

A few points,

The Stingray is at 12KHz, the CZ20 @ 5 & 15KHz, the BH @ 6.5KHz. The BH did best on the chain, worse on the other gold items. Why? I believe it has to do w/ coil design, the BH has a very small diameter recv coil in the center.

I just did a test burying a Jeff @ 8 inches in freshwater sand, the Excel w/ 8 inch coil and sens @ 10 mis-ID'ed the Jeff w/ a +36, but a TB MII operating @12.5KHz sens= 3 w/ 10 inch coil also mis-ID'ed, The TB hit a little better/harder, but with the Jeff @ 10 inches deep did not react. Two caveats, the TB does not have the latest software, and I have very little experience with it.

Go to the bottom of the post, three small(girl's) gold rings, the one on the right, very thin w/ a broken band, this is a tough target for any general purpose machine, but the Excel hit it in the 2 to 4 inch range under the sand. Not too shabby.

for your inspection of my little art project. "devil" BTW, thanks for all the info you've passed on thus far. Makes me feel a little better about having traded off the Excel awhile back.

If memory serves me correctly I have only found one small 10K broken band with the 1236 and another with the 1270. Of the Fisher detectors ther 1270 is the best on chains.

There is definitely more to gold sensitivity than Khz. Jack Gifford (Tesoro) one of the pioneers of modern motion detectors has stated that on more than one occasion.

In other words...is a "15" on the Excel the same as a "15" on the Edge?

Is nickel /tab ID better than the Excel? I noticed on my excel that nickels and tabs fell in nearly the exact ID range (in my heavy red clay ground anyway).

Thanks for the info!

Can you explain this so a novice like myself knows what you mean? No need to be technical, just what do you mean "dial back to -36" and what does that help?
Thanks,
Tagamet
PS With my modest 440 settings I'm not finding much of anything deeper than 3 or 4 inches. Is that what you'd expect in normal to light mineralized soil? Basically sod, plus an inch or so.

a continuation of what the Excel/C$ started.......but don't go to +99 like the C$.
For the nickels this is why I was asking folks before where their nickles read. I keep forgetting...I think my oldie ones were like around 8 or 9 here?? (who else knows?) You may have answered your own question as that nasty clay can throw off the typical number chart......HH< Bill

to "dial back" an Excel or edge to -36 means you can essentially get a setting similar to using all metal mode. But, like your C$ that goes into a 1 tone all metal. But by doing disc mode @ -36 you get the added benefit of utilizing all 4 tones. It's very cool......
I use this alot (Lets me know how trashy a site is hearing all the iron "fart" sounds) ;)
For the 440 getting 4"......my guess is that a 10 year old soccer field coins have not sunk much further than that. I have got deep buttons @ 120.......
so don't worry, you have a ton of power there......your still just beginning :)

What do you mean by having lots of notches? Does that mean as in segmented notches like on the C$ or CZ machines...or is it a different animal in that aspect?

I think it would be cool to have a Fisher machine based on similar notch circuitry as the Minelab or Whites machines...where you have a few preset programs that "notch out" the common numbers for most trash targets found...BUT while giving you the option of editing the preset notch ranges for your specific hunting needs or location and maybe a few memory slots to store those you want to save.

For example...say I'm hunting a relic site with a ton of .22 shell casings that read as one specific number on the machine. Give me the option of running in relic mode but notching out that specific number for the .22 casings. The same could go for a coin hunter in a park that is encountering a specific piece of trash revelant to that site....being able to customize the detector for site to site is a big plus alot of other manufacturers have to offer that Fisher slacks in. On the C$ if I wanted to eliminate those .22 casings I would have to totally notch out the entire FOIL window range...which also kills my chances at smaller buttons and such.

Any chance the Edge allows a person that sort of versitility?

I've also searched 3 very old sites and gotten very little depth, but yes, I'm only beginning.

...than say an Excel/C$ does. I probably should have said more notch possibilities or something to that effect, as the Edge has the same 4 as your C$. (foil, nickel, tab, zinc).
But, unlike a C$ you can dial out more areas by combining these notches, the new presets, & disc dialing. Like right now with an Excel you can dial the disc up to null all med. tones up to +22 I believe. The EDge is the same idea, but with a preset like JL (Jewlery), now the other end (High coin) can go as well (good on the beach). I think coinshooters should dig the OC mode which essentially was designed to delete foil + tabs but hit on old nickles & indian heads (& all coins). The notches on the C$ canceled a great deal. For example, if you used the "tabs" notch it went to +18 or more & indian heads got lost. But, I have yet to see a +18 tab. C$ homepage says this, & Fisher listened & made tighter ranges for the Edge which is good. So, I think there's more play & this is pretty versitile.
I agree that a form of editing your own numbers/notches would be the ultimate. I did talk at length to FRL about this. Many on this forum have suggested it. You have no idea how much we'd love to silence the +51 hot rocks here on the C$ for example :) Funny, I gave Fisher the same example as you...I said shotgun shells. They do like the custom number notch idea, but I don't think it was possible with this Edge program.....
