Exclusive photos: new ID EDGE

Ready to be photoshopped ;) (sorry so huge) Poster sized close-up for my minions
I had a prototype and can begin to answer a few questions. Please don't fill up my privite box, I'll answer on this forum when & what I'm able to....This is the ID EDGE headquarters :D
I believe it's going to be a very cool machine & not just saying that (I will be using this in the field often). Yes, because of the LCD numbers it may look like a C$/Excel. But, it's far from just an Excel with a couple features. It's a new machine....It's different. It's gut more depth than the Excel, & alot of new features/improvements the C$/Excel don't have. Some were suggested improvements by us...the users, & FRL listened & "Gut R DUN" just in time for X-mas (had to say that) Hipmount/long cord/bigger pinpoint button/ notches/ different presets for coins+jewlery...are a few of the new Edge features I recall offhand.
Two out of my 3 capped bust coins, and the rare Revolutionary Loyalist badge were found with the Edge I had for a very short time....

and do all the modes use a notch system? I ask that because I like the way the Excel is setup with its progressive disc for a lot of my hunting. How about +36 and above readings? One fault I had with the C$ is not being able to eliminate signals from hot rocks and some of those cinders that Tagamet spoke of. I always felt the C$ would benefit from having something like a hot rock reject or the ability to silence the audio on signals +36 and above at sites where it high falses.

HH Tom

I would love to silence areas like +51 on the C$....but that is a different story.
The Edge goes -36 to plus +36 I think....so Disc more like Excel which is nice.......
There have been several changes to the Edge, since I had an early one. So I'll answer what I know myself & I'm waiting on one for further tests. You guys may remember me asking where your tabs hit, indian heads, etc? Fisher made some preset's that eliminate certain number ranges and only accept certain numbers. For example, "OC" (old coin) preset should let indians/nickels be found while nulling pesky tabs for example. kinda cool idea.....
Notches show on the LCD like: 5c,FL,Pt,1C(zinc).....
Not, sure if I'm answering exactly what you asked, but again I don't have one yet to play with myself.......

I'd love one for night hunting & was gonna suggest that, but forgot.......The proto didn't, but spec sheet says yes.....so lets hope specs are correct

by the specs...it's the same Fisher style:
LOW
MID-LOW
MID-HIGH
HIGH
In fact the audio was something they were working on since the one I had. I have trouble discerning mid's myself, so lets hope.....
That's always a tricky thing because if the mid-high gets too high then people will confuse w. high coin

Bill picture would make a great poster! Question what will we for coils or do we have to wait for Sunray to make them? Hope it stacks up to CZ70!

That's another thing they were working on.....what values to use, etc....
Another point:
Jewlery preset.....this is kinda cool for a beach if that's all you want to go after is gold. With the Excel we can dial up the disc to cancel mid-tones. This is the same on the Edge (can disc up to +22). But there was no way to knock out the other end, or "high coin". Notching high's is done alot with the 7a & CZ-70 on beaches, or when someone loses a ring & you wanna find just that (I keep a 7a just for this ability). This EDGE jewlery setting is on that idea....

I know what you mean Bill, I was hoping for ti**ty pink with orange trim, but if it was I could only hunt at nite, I guess. I think I'm gonna give one a try anyhow.----Wade tx:wiggle::wiggle:

Just one more question from me for now. John Tx asked about gold and I'm also wondering if the extra depth you mentioned over the Excel applies on the small low conductors as well. I know that the high freq machines can be hotter on gold but my experience with Fisher is that they design their circuits to do well over a broad range of target sizes and conductivities. Did the engineers keep this good Fisher trait when they increased the gain on the ID Edge?

Thanks
Tom

I have yet to answer that gold post because I'm not really a beach guy & didn't get a chance to test alotta jewlery yet. But, we all know that the Excel/C$ will find little bits a lead, wire, BB's, & small earrings, etc. I found this kinda tiny stuff with the proto. So, with the same engineer it really looks like they built on those same good quailites to me, & hopefully folks don't think khz under 10 won't find gold. As you said, FRL makes sure their frequencies cover everything. I'm anxious to get a new one in my hands to do alot more detailed tests on stuff like gold and depth.......

Maybe BarnicleBill can jump in & say how the Excel does for small gold. The Edge is alot different & more powerful, but close in frequency design
