just wet sands at low tide. In the wet sands, yes the Pinpoint functioned fine for me.......in salt water not sure....maybe can try if you want? I know I'm the only guy with one so I'll try to do what I can...
 
I used some black silicone to seal my Excel ID and hunted the Cocoa Beach area last winter. Never a problem with the internals and got my first gold in dry sand. Light and easy to use I still love it and cannot wait to get back to the beach.
