GulfHunters & VB Max's settings for the Excalibur II, may want to try these for awhile then in a few months once you have learned more about your excal II, go for the AM/PP hunting. Good Luck, you have a Great Machine!.....Joe

Here they are again(these change from time to time, but that is where I'm at now), Discrimination on 1 (leave it there, if you like to find gold), Sensitivity on 12 (may be able to run 11 if stable)for Excal and 6 for Excal lI (may be able to run 5 if stable), Volume wide open, Threshold barely audible (listen for the VERY high pitched strained tone and get out of it, asap) low or mid growl is best, and Disc. The reason I warn about the high pitched strained tone, is the unit is not dealing well with the ground and losing depth. Either the sensitivity is too high or you are sweeping too fast. Pinpoint (all-metal) can be run with depth gains in clean/intermediate clean surf areas, where a PI could be used. Best of luck to ya mate!

Joe, I have been using these settings or very close to these depending on conditions and have had good luck, thanks for posting them as a reminder.

Hey oldbeechnut, I live in Minnesota and there is a lot of iron in the lakes. I hunt in disc and I have always been told to hunt with the high pitch threshold barely audible. When passing over iron I get a low or medium growl at times. Is this the growl that you are referring to in this post? Is this the threshold I should be hunting with?

Sounds good Ss, give me a week I will get you some video up on the growl..joe
