Excalibur II Settings

Ok guys, I am going to purchase an Excalibur II 1000 for the my vacation on the beach. It will be quite a change from using my E-Trac so I need any and all advice.
I know some hunt in auto some manual and some hunt in pinpoint or discrimination. Its all Greek to me because I have never used one. Why hunt in pinpoint? do you feel it gives an advantage on depth or is it more like all metal?

Need to know how to set the machine up and why. Thanks in advance

The Excalibur II is one of the easiest water detectors to set up and use.

Threshold ... set so you can just hear the tone.
Sensitivity ... set it somewhere around 8 ... stay out of auto.
Discrimination ... about 2 ... all you want to knock out is iron.
Volume ... about 70%

Use the detector like this for a while.
Some like to hunt in pinpoint mode and say it detects deeper ... IMHO it does not.
After a bit of practice you will be able to pinpoint a target without switching modes.

I just wanted to get several versions of settings, and I know according to the particular beach it may be different. I know some hunt in Auto some do not, some hunt in Pinpoint and switch back to Disc. to see if they get the iron null.

I guess whatever you geet use to, as long as your making good finds.

I use Sens 7, volume 3/4 of the way, disc 0, and turn threshold to barely audible and go

Well now Dig, I'd rather have a sexy Blonde with a great swing to carry the detector electronics around for me, rather then use a straight shaft. That would also make a difference as night and day, Gene

Waiting to get the detector now.

Gene, I hope your referring to Wendy as the sexy blonde. ha ha ha ha ha.

No not Wendy, she's pretty cool, she'll let me look at the menu, order from the menu, and stare at the plate, but I better not touch the utensils. Gene

I like your analogy. Definitely a lot on the menu at the beach.
Nothing wrong with window shopping I guess, but if you go in for a purchase use plastic.

Bcoop, Can't go wrong with Plugger, he is TOP NOTCH and STANDS BEHIND his Products!! EXTREMELY H-O-N-E-S-T to deal with!! BEST OF LUCK,

Bcoop, If you ever see my wife youl,ll know I don't even think about it, no plastic needed. My wife is 5' 1' and right at 106 lbs, she took my heart 30 years ago, and I wouldn't trade her for 4 - 20 year.
olds. My wife is pretty cool, she even points the real sexy girls to me, but it might be she knows I'm gonna say, oh their alright, but not as good as you. Anyway she like me to look, cause later on that day she knows she'll pay for it. Smart women. Gene

I certainly agree 100%, I may joke around a little it keeps your sanity. I've been married 22 years and wouldn't even think about messing any of that up, she has me trained well.
Can't say I don't notice the panoramic view on the beach, but my heart belongs to the only one for me.

Yeah, I had a girl hit on me, and when I told her I was married, she said just like it, men are like parking spaces, the good ones are taken and the rest are handi capped. Gene

>>> Discrimination ... about 2 ... all you want to knock out is iron. <<<

Sorry, that is incorrect. The Excal knocks out iron by default, on setting sens "0". I agree with everything you said other than that.

On the sensitivity, you are giving out bad advice...as to set the disc on "2" you WILL lose some small gold rings and most chains. Set it to "0" or you will miss small gold. Period.

That makes sense to me, The Excalibur Nulls on Iron automatically from everything I have been told and understand about the machine. Of course, I have not used one and I'm going by what others tell me. Most seem to run discrimination from 0 to 1, I would think that would allow for a greater chance of locating chains.

Chains are hard to get anyway most machines try to read every link as a target and usually don't even pick them up.

Thanks Mike for your input

You are going to Love your Excal.
I hunt in AM/PINPOINT Then i switch to discriminate
I use discriminate 1- there is no 0 on the Excal II Sensitivity 6, volume max and thresh hold just faintly audible
use that for a while first. I also made a test area of all the stuff you would find junk wise and every size silver and gold ring i have.
Made a big difference in not wasting my time I found 5 rings first big trip out and the area was hit hard by local Veteran water hunters.
Good Luck hope that helps!
