Excal Chest Mount

New member
Just got the chest mount, and I think it should work out good. Question, How do you put it on? It seems that the easiest way may be to keep it clipped together, then slip it over your head , like a t-shirt. Also, how do you carry everything? The original way is to pick up the MD and go. Now it's 3 seperate items hooked together. How does everyone manage this easily?
Marc

I carry everything in a duffel bag with the coil attached to my bottom rod. I get to the beach I get it out of the bag and mount it on the upper rod and put it on.

For me it was bit confusing at first, I found one of the straps installed in upside down. I corrected that and then had my daughter fit it to me. I think Plugger would help himself and his customers if he would include 3 more photos.

Put the harness on a manikin or torso manikin to show what it should look like from the front, side and back. I know it would have saved me some frustration.

I put it over my head like a tee shirt as you suggested and I carry the harness assembly in a canvas hand bag.

I had to practice quite a bit and I almost have it. For warm weather, just slipping it on like a T-shirt seems the easiest. In cold weather, with bulky clothes, it's tougher. I still try the T-shirt thing, but if I get stuck, I un-snap it, and hold onto the loose strap and pull down on that, so the back part comes down, and then re-snap it.
Hard to do, but so far, seems worth it.

omg..come on guys, this is very very easy system to use,i just unhook the belt when taking on and off, once you get it fit to your size its really easy to use...if it was hard it wouldnt be easy...

Yes it is easy once you understand it. That is why directions should be clear from the onset. That is all anyone is saying.

Once I had mine adjusted it was a simple matter to slip it over my head like a t-shirt, keeping it all buckled together and if I'm really going to get wet (above the waist) I wear a wet suit and have pre-marked where I need to set the straps (larger) and then put it on like a coat by snapping the belt buckle together at my left side...yes it was a bit clumsy at first. but after several hunts it has become an ease to put on and use.:clapping: I have only a short walk to the beaches I hunt so everything is kept in a lock box inside my Isuzu Trooper then put on when I make the short walk to the gold.:detecting:
Side note: Mine came with the mounts and webbing facing the wrong way and if used that way the bolts would have been digging into my chest. It was easy to change it around and I also like that there was plenty of straps to fit my 5X size (I ordered the X-tra long model from Bill).

I had to correct one of the straps which was turned the wrong way. Other than that, no problems, I just hold it by the two front straps and place my head in and arms through the sides. Takes all of about 10 seconds, sometimes I have to use my thumbs and lift it up and down to get the back straps to settle into place.

Mine came with the straps facing the wrong way. People can't believe that this is complicated to figure out, but until you get it on for the first time it is a two person job.

OK lets see some pictures from the sides, front and back so we can all learn from this!

Best Regards,

Ok, I am sorry for any problems you all may be having while setting up your harness. I have just ordered a mannequin and I will make sure that future shipments are right side out. In the mean time, go to Indian Nations web site and you can see pictures from all sides (clink on the link below). Hopefully, those pictures will answer your questions. And yes, it is easier to have someone help you to adjust the harness for the first time. People come in all shapes and sizes so I don't try to adjust the harness to any individual. I do believe it is possible to pull the harness out of the box and somehow invert one or more of the straps, I just saw my hunting partner's with the cable restraint "reversed" after he had used it a half dozen times or so. That can explain his CRS getting reversed, but the straps being on backwards, especially all of them has me confused. I wouldn't think I could reverse all of them, sounds more like the belt is being turned inside out, I try to set them up with the buckle to the left of the pod mounting setup (as you are wearing the harness) and the CRS to the right of the pod mt for right handers. and the straps should cross over in the rear. Again, I apologize for any problems you may have in setting it up and suggest that you click on the link below and go to the Indian Nations web site and see the pictures. In the future, I will doublecheck each harness before shipping and I would hope that you would contact either me or Chuck at Indian Nations if you have any questions

I'll also add some pics to the instructions when I get the mannequin. Experience is the best teacher and more pictures will hopefully help you set it up easier. I do know that I thought they looked right on my work bench. Once you add the pods aneadphones and coil cable, it sure gets confusing. Set up just the harness first.

First off I want to say that the harness is by far the best way I have ever mounted my Excalibur. It was a pleasure hunting with it. The belt got twisted and one strap was facing the wrong way. That is all that was going on. I was confused, but my wife fixed it right away. Did you ever see a woman take her bra off with out removing her shirt? Women know about strap stuff. After I mounted the Excal and slipped it on for the first time I have no problems.

Plugger any comments I made were meant to be constructive. I love the harness and I do recommend it to all who just want to enjoy detecting with the Excalibur. It is a joy to use and with my bad back it is a blessing. Once it is properly adjusted its all good.

Oh, one other thing, your new shaft locks are just plain awesome. They are as no hassle as it gets. I drilled two holes to make a straight shaft, for the arm cuff and that's it. Make couple of turns on the clamping knob and out the shaft drops, spray water to clean off the sand and salt and set aside to dry. Slip it back in take a couple of turns and off you go. Misaligned or the length is wrong, once again two turns and make the necessary adjustments.

Once people realize what these are, you will sell a ton of the things. No holes to drill and no pins hassle with. These things work and are clearly the best way to attach the lower rod assembly.

Great products for detecting::detecting:

I have not taken any offense to any of the comments, I rely on everyone's experience to make them better. Thank you all! The mannequin is a great idea! It will make it easier to set the harnesses up so I can doublecheck them before they ship out. Please don't hesitate to let me or Chuck know what you feel about any of products you see on his web site. I will do my best to remedy any adverse situation and I promise to do it quickly. I have many more ideas for new products and when they are ready, you will see them on the Indian Nations web site. Next up, before the end of the year, there will some solutions for the Garrett Infinium shaft problems and Chuck will have them on his web site.

Well as I said, the two items I purchased, the harness and shaft locks were worth the investment.
