excal 11 detachable headphones

Well mate, I'm set-up with an ikelite connector and you KNOW I like the mine. Galveston surf mind you, but it gets dicey out there too. No worries. The Gray Ghost cabling IS more fragile, than the stock headphone cabling though. They are worth having, imo.

u thinking about a W O T for the surf and mine ??? - i will say the W O T Is the best beach coil going, but i would not recommend it for hunting in the deep water zone.

that baby is hard to move when the waves and tide get it...........has NO pluses when used deep

deep...............stick with the stock 10" or even better the 8" if u have one.

do not fret the grayghosts nor the wire - u will be fine

has never, not even once, given me any grief. I put the GG phones on maybe 10 years back when I decided that they were a better phone. I got the excal back in the late 80s , I think, and it has been a model of consistency. The GG phones are that much better than the originals.

I wondered if it would be a pain to move in deeper water, Max. I don't find the 10" a problem even though I don't have the new coil which is supposed to be much lighter, the 12" on my Whites Dually is no problem either but I respect you opinion and will look into the 8" coil. The Whites PI is my deep seeker now but I like the extra feedback from the Excal 1000, it just makes the hunt more fun.

Cheers,

BDA

It is much better to have the factory add this feature right out of the box.

Reasoning:
The warranty is NOT effected.
The headphones can be changed out, if a problem in the the hieght of the season( no down time).
Easier to travel with the phones removed.

With the fee for this option being not very exspensive it is a good thing to do.

Thanks for reading

I totally agree with Joe. If you have an older machine, and am mechanically inclined, then doing it yourself is an option especially if you need it done right away.

It is not rocket science to do but it does require attention to detail to make it water proof.

IF it is a new machine, have it sent to Minelab. If it is older, and you need it right away, then DIY can be an option.

And correct me if I am wrong, Joe, but I have heard that you would arrange to have machines bought from you sent to the factory for the upgrade. When I am in the market for a new Excalibur, I'm going to call you!

We have been stocking the modified excal 1000 to save time on delivery to customers.

Sometimes minelab's shop gets backed up and it slows delivery time.

A recent case. An order was held up, because they wanted to know if detector was to be modified.

The headphones we have in stock, ready to install if already modified.

There are a few on the forum here that needed them in a hurry, because there phones went south.
