Etrac vs CTX

I used and loved the E-Trac for 4 years and one of my buddies has had his for 3 years. I got a CTX last year and used it side by side with the E-Trac. I really don't have any doubts the CTX was a bit better. Seemed to be far more stable and more accurate on those really deep ones that were generally iffy signals on the E-Trac. By iffy I'm talking in target ID only. The sounds seem to be very close. I did have a few targets my buddy had me check he thought would be a possible deep coin that the CTX called junk. They were 100% all junk. I had two targets, that I can remember, that I had my buddy check with his E-Trac he thought would be deep iron that turned out to be coins.

Both are top of the food chain deep coin machine but I do feel the CTX has an edge over the E-Trac. Not much, but then often it doesn't take much more to reach the good ones. To me it has proved its worth over the E-Trac.

I would not necessarily compare each detector but compare each forum. the e-trac forum is going strong with new finds everyday..........the ctx forum not so much. the e-trac seems to make great finds consistently. just sayin
there are 10 times more people out there with E tracs so take that into account....

There are 10 times more people who own Dodge NEON's, but does it make it a better car??? No...just affordable.

HH,

Both are great units.
An experienced user will enjoy the added features on the CTX, but master the E-trac and with a wide selection of aftermarket coils.

You become a force to be reckoned with!!

I love my Etrac and have HAMMERED parks, foundations, and sites in/around the Indiana, PA area for the last almost 2 years. The basic concept of the FE/CO is the same between the Etrac and CTX, the weight is the same, the coils are basically cookie-cutter, but the $$ you are paying for the CTX is for a faster processsor, waterproof, GPS, and a few more perks.

Mickfin... you are right... this is an Etrac forum....LOL.... I guess it would also not be fair posting how I am SMOKING the same areas with my newly added V3i (custom programmed), that I hit with my Etrac and the CTX are now hitting...LOL

And you can now use the same Lithium-ion Battery Power technology in your Etrac that the CTX 3030 uses.

I'm not real impressed by the depth capabilities of my etrac. Air testing over a silver dime at 10-12", no problem. Testing over a buried dime at 8", the etrac could not detect it. My Explorer 2 with 10x12 sef will, with no problem.
I put the sef coil on the etrac, and it still could not detect the 8" buried dime.
I re-buried to 7", and etrac gives an "iffy" signal on the dime at that depth, about the same with the factory coil.
My buddy says he can hit coins at 10-12" with his machine (and 10x12 sef coil). He's loaned it to me for comparison, I have yet to get the time out and test.

AMC Rulz: I have dug 2 dimes and one Standing Liberty quarter at 11+ inches with my ETrac. I have also dug many between 8 and 11 inches. Depth is not a problem with an ETrac.

Not sure what is going on with your machine, but mine is very deep.

I would love to get a CTX to try against the ETrac, just haven't been convinced there is enough difference (other than waterproof) for the difference in price.

There are many differences, Feel free to give me a ring. I have many hours on both and be glad to answer all your questions. Bart

I'll bet you have some setting in that Etrac not set right otherwise that 8" dime is no problem, likesetting ground Difficult, HIGH Trash, +3 sensitivity, the volume GAIN set to 28 or 29 check it out please as it will do that dime with ease if the SE will. OR could be something in the ground near the dime pushing that signal into the nulled out discriminated portion on the Etrac or you have your iron mask opened up more on the SE.

My friend loaned me his etrac, and it is set up almost identical to my unit. Same coil, and using wide open screen, his etrac will not break threshold over the dime, which I re-buried in a new location.
