Equinox getting dumped

And that price... $1600 ! Did I see right ? That would mean $2000 CAD ! At this point I'm not even wishing for anything more out of the Equinox when it comes to performance. All I want is a more solid build (without added weight) and an easily changeable battery or readily available power source. Minelab could also be closer to their customers (take example from Nokta).

That small display and terrible tone quality is a deal breaker for me too… not to mention the price.

I like the buttons on it though. They look solid and built to last as opposed to the thin membrane type that is used on so many models today including the Nox.
 
Have my nox for 3 years now and its a quite capable machine. The D2 will probably be better, in some or in many aspects, but I dont know if theres enough there to justify near double the price of the 800. But, theres plenty of others willing to find out and I look forward to their conclusions.

The EQ 800 is right at 1000.00 bucks + carbon fiber shaft 120-150.00?

I was like you with my older minelabs but I can attest multi IQ in tough conditions they can out pace them. I don't hunt in Culpepper soils either. I have been swinging for 51 years as well, congrats its a great hobby!
 
Love my Nox, have both 600 and 800. Im hitting Indians at 10’ plus. Dug a Barber quarter 1897 S on its side and in the roots. It always goes deep and gives a good signal. I waited a year and a half before buying it. I compared signals with the V3i and MX sport II was using. I’ll stick with it until it’s actually proven obsolete not just in adds.

yes it came with it which I will use when water detecting with my grey ghosts
 
The introduction of new machines may not be the only reason a lot of guys are ditching the NOX. It has been out now long enough for the warranties to have expired on many of the early machines. With the breaking that occurred , I would not feel comfortable knowing every push of a button could result in a $350 to $400 repair bill. If I still had one and liked using it I would be considering dumping it and getting another just for a new warranty.

Don’t forget older folks may not be detecting as much and decide it’s over for detecting.
I haven’t been out much this year, so maybe I’ll dump some detectors too.

You got it right about older people not detecting much. A few I know have died in the last few years and I my self am having problems now that I am in my late 70's. I have been detecting since 1965. It feels strange not to be able to go and do it nowadays. I have a Nox 800 but I haven't put more than 60 hours on it. Never had a problem with it either. I have a Sov Gt and used that over 100 hours and still would if I could. I liked the ides that you could hip mount it which is often better for older people. Can't do that with a Nox.
 
If the Nox is such a bad detector then why are so many people using it. I watch a lot of YouTube video’s and have noticed many many people switching to the Nox and staying with it. I’ve got over 600 hours on mine and can’t see me changing anytime with in the next few years. 50 tones, the separ it gets and depth. It’s going to be hard to top it. It must be a good unit if everyone is saying there as good as or better

I agree the Nox is a good detector, but I could never get used to 50 toned, after 10 min I start getting a migraine, I guess when you get old your brain cannot process that much information. 5 tones are enough for me, but to be honest 3 would suffice. High, medium and low.
