Equinox coil and headphone connector pictures

Why..... because many of us water hunters CANT use wireless out there neck deep. This could be an interesting all around machine for the beach. its in the planning stage now...... NOWS the time to point out things and brain storm options...... testers and ML read these posts. Still dont think we need that external speaker lol.

Personally I would want wireless headphones just to rid myself of the headphone cord tangle. Wired waterproof headphones for use in the water obviously. Really depends on the quality of the headphones, if the wireless are on par with say Sunray Golds (which I doubt) then I'll be good to go. If the wind is blowing NE 40 mph on a beach again Sunray Golds are my go to phones for noise reduction. I was using a pair of wireless over the ear headphones yesterday, the wind was only blowing about 20 mph and the wind noise reduction was so poor it was interfering with my ability to hear the targets.

Because wireless will not work in the water once the box submerges

My Racer 2 wireless headphones have really sold me on the convenience of being cord free. I’ve not used them long enough to have had a headphone emergency that may change my mind, but it is really nice not having to sweep the coiled cord to the side each time I kneel or stand during target recovery.

I think the Deus is still using an antenna that attaches to their coil and the navy is still sending up an antenna from their subs. (Any Navy guys out there?). ELF might have too much lag and then there is the array to drag along behind the detector. Probably tangle in the feet. Likely worse than a coiled water resistant cable/connector.

From what I see from the pics, that will be the Killer for this old water hunter, !/8" cord and jack wont last a day sticking out the front like that. Oh well just thought I had found me a new Machine

Thanks Dan for the pics, answered all my questions

Wireless dosen't work underwater, its usless

Rich:
20 years with the sub's towed array and half way around the world with 5 watts of power.
BUT, you should have seen the receiving antennas. You could hold two football games simultaneously with int the antenna.
AH, for the good old days.

Like Dew said...this will NOT work for us water hunters that submerge our units. The wireless feature would be nice if we could use it underwater, but that doesn't seem to be the case at this point. Also, the location of the plug will be an issue when swinging the machine underwater for hours on end while completely submerged...I don't think the stock setup will last very long for my usage. A 90 degree connector for the headphones or an adapter for better cable connection/management would be better for us underwater users.

If (when!) Detector Pro comes out with GGA's for the Equinox they will stay on mine 75% of the time. I trust the GGA's will have a thicker insulation and good strain relief, I own a few of their cans and love them. For woods and farm fields where I'm using a shovel or avoiding the tangle of branches the stock wireless will be great. Got spoiled years ago on wireless with my V3i, even though the stock Whites can be warm in the summer, awesome in the cool weather.

As a towed array such as a sub would deploy is not too practical in our situation I am planning ahead.

I'm yet to get my Equinox, but planning on routing the headphone cable down and under, holding it in place with velcro, cable ties, tape...whatever and let it come off the upper rod by the arm cuff, just like my other detectors are rigged. My first thought is that the headphones may not be available before the Equinox audio out to a 1/4" headphone jack so I will take that adapter cut off the 1/4" jack and the plug on a headphone cable; splice them together and apply a waterproof cover over the splice. OR use a waterproof connector assembly such as the ones for sale to allow coil changes for the Excalibur etc.

More than one way to skin the cat...or take the tension off the headphone connector's strain relief.

As for strain relief my water detectors all have the same arrangement to help: I run a nylon strap with heavy plastic swivel clips at each end. They attach at the arm cuff to a loop of heavy cable tie. I wear the nylon strap across my chest like a bandoleer (I think that the word I want) so I can let go of the detector and use two hands on the scoop, or swim if I wandered too far out, the hole is too deep and the detector never strays far enough to pull on the headphone cord.

Did you guys see this?? 800 Made waterproof for waterproof earbuds...

It (the cable) does protrude somewhat from the back of the main unit, so I guess will have some water pressure when swinging, unlike the CTX which is covered. FYI,it is possible and super easy to make a small metal cover if needed.

Not giving up my Sunrays for minelab headphones...

What is the name of the screw on connector that minelab is using and where is it available?
