Electronic Hand-held Pinpionter

I use a Vibraprobe 560 and I am happy with it. The closer you get to your target, the more it vibrates. That's how you know you are right on top of your target. Why would anybody want a probe that detects up to 3" or more? The purpose of a pinpointer it to tell you where your find is, not "It's around here somewhere, keep on looking." Your detector should pinpoint it to within 2" or 3". In my opinion no more than 1" is fine.

I too was wondering about the benefits of a pinpointer and after reading some of the replies to your post, I bit the bullet and ordered the Wizard Vib Probe II. Hey, I must tell you, I won't be without it! Got mine from Mytoolstore.com for 37.95 plus 9.75 s&h.

I use the Automax V4. Its somewhat longer than most PP but its dead on when you're within 1 to 2 inches of the target. It has a 7" probe that can be pushed straight down in soft ground before digging,Helps to find the target before diggin. Seems to be built strudy. I haven't broke it yet. I've never had a problem with it. I also have a Whites Bullseye 120 mm but it seems to give false signal at times. The Automax has never done that. I perfer the handhelds because they can be used with all my detectors.

I have fried three pinpointers in a little more than a year. Two of the three had their depress switches fail (Whites 120mm and a Sherlock). Those two I replaced the switch with a micro toggle only to have one just give up the ghost and die (Sherlock) and the Whites failed because the end of the probe actually wore down enough where one of the tip's coil windings became exposed and broke, rendering it useless.
My Automax V2 just died. Sent it back, they replaced it and the replacement died (besides, the Automax is WAY too big and bulky)
I recently bought a Vibraprobe560. I could NOT be happier. It's pulse induction operation lets you know the tip's proximity to the traget by the number of pulses. It's waterproof, NO SWITCH to fail and is STURDY as heck.

My suggestion is the Vibraprobe560....from someone who's hard on equipment!!

Here here! I agree totally with you. I don't know how other people use their pinpointer but I don't turn mine on until I know the object is out of the hole and my old eyes haven't spotted it yet in the little dirt pile. Seems I have scratched thru that pile for 5 minutes hunting an old corroded penny or such! Now I probe around with my Wizard vibprobe II and in a second or two I have it located. Off to the next find!

Got the Viba-Probe 560 - Happy with it and quality built.
Got the Wizard Vib-Probe II - Happy with it, inexpensive and works.
Got the Sunray probe installed on the explorer-II, Happy with it too.

I found a home and use for all thanks to the inputs. It's what I been reading, can't go without. So far got three pinpointers and I'm happy - I wonder if I get a few more - would I be happier?? Thanks All...
