Went to bed at 2am this morning, shortly after arriving home from work. Set the alarm clock for 5:15am, the cats woke me up at 5:10. So much for the alarm clock...Dragged myself downstairs blurry eyed and tired. Kept thinking to myself, I should go back to bed after I feed the furballs. Made some oatmeal, got my gear together and headed for the door. It was still dark out as I strolled down to the beachfront..the sun was still behind the horizon but, lit up the clouds from underneath turning them red in color. They looked like a rough sea of molten lava. Upon arriving at the beach, noticed the regular Yogamysters meditating facing the water towards the sunrise. Sure was chilly this morning.
Today was my first actual serious water hunt using a White's Surfmaster PI PRO that found a Rolex for the orig. owner.
I was quite pleased with the coil weight I made for it. The coil still floats at the surface but becomes neutrally buoyant at 3'. The PI pro swung very easily thru out the morning with no arm fatigue.
Spent the first 3 hours of 5 shivering slightly. There was a light cold breeze and the sun just would not peek out from behind the clouds. When your finding gold you can tolerate the chill.
The PI was a joy to use, once set up, purred like a kitten.
Wasn't sure what was in store, had visions of thousands of nails and hairpins the day before. I generally hunt with a
Detectorpro Wader discriminating out the hairpins.
Started to find a few coins soon after entering the water. Read that pinpointing can be tricky and found out why doing some air testing. For the most part you pinpoint the target off center between the inner and outer edges of the coil. And by tilting the coil you can use the coils edge to zero in on the target. Found lots of hairpins, some bottle caps, fishing hook, sinker, wire, screw and some other junk.
Less than what I figured to find. I had to scoop out some pretty deep holes to retrieve some targets, just about gave up on one hole. It got to be about 2' wide by the time i got down deep enough to find a Loonie. It sounded as a light sound and became louder the deeper I dug.
After several hours of digging coins and misc. costume jewelry, something special was at the bottom of my scoop.
A nice big gold ring, wasn't sure if it was real or not, so I just shoved it into my pocket. Off I went to look for more.
It was time to quit, the last few minutes were spent hunting 7 feet from shore. Found a dime and then another ring, looked like silver at the time. It went into my pocket.
Packed up and walked home, emptied my pockets and checked out the big gold ring. It was 22kt with a small diamond. Took a look at the silver ring and it was 14kt white gold. After weighing them out estimated gold value was $300.00. The PI paid for itself in one day, cool!
My coin finds were:
2---Loonies
10--Quarters
3---Dimes
2---Nickels
13--Pennies
