found this yesterday at an old cellar site , this particular site has given up military buttons from 1830's to the civil war era but i am unable to i.d. this piece
any ideas as to what it might be and when it may have been in use . the back has three button like eye loops and i'm not sure how the chain is fastened to the rest of the piece and the indian penny is only for comparison .thanks Dan

hi leddel, don't know what it is but it sure is neat! soldiers had all kinds of embellishments back in those days. i've never seen anything exactly like it. cool find! hh,

I think that come out of an 1830's Cracker Jacks box. You should probably send that to me. I put it in the ground right where you dug it.:smoke: I think you are on the right track with what you think it is. See you guys next Saturday, for another fun hunt.

o.k. i' think it is a sword langet it has the wear of where it would fit on a scabbard but am unsure of the chain and eye loops , here's a picture of one on
a early 1800's sword
