e-trac satisfaction

Hello, I am shopping for a new detector and am interested in folks out there that use the e-trac and how you like the machine. I have been detecting for over 35 years and have had a number of different machine. My old Bounty Hunter still finds coins (my primary interest) but it is time to get a modern unit. Please let me know how you like, or dislike your e-trac. I am open to all suggestions on other brands. My price range is about $1,500. Thank you.

PS. This is my first post to any forum.

Buy a used Etrac, a small coil and either a Sunray probe or a Garrett PP and you will be set. You can have all this for under $1500 oh and get another lower rod. With all this you will be smiling from ear to ear every time you pull another silver. Trust me on this one cuz I have been there. The Etrac is nothing short of amazing once you get to know it. It's one machine that has been proven by so many that it will just keep on giving' .

I have been using the Etrac for this season only (my first season hunting for reals) and I have to say that I'm happy with my machine, so far I have found:
1 1891 morgan dollar.
2 halfs a 1942, 1944.
1 1964 Half dollar
1 1906 barber quater
7 silver Mercury dimes.
1 silver rose dime
2 silver rings
2 gold rings.
1 gold earing
1 silver bracelet.
5 silver earrings
18 weat pennys
2 V nickles 1908 1909
1 buffalo nickle (no date)
65.39 on clad coins
this is just on 2 months of hunting beacuase it rains a lot here.
so just to give you an idea of the capabilities of this machine. I use the coins program and a modifide park program that I oppen all the way + quik-mask. I usualy don't pay attention to the numbers but more to the sounds because it is like music to my ears.
Hope this help's you on making a good decision.
PS I hunt only on my local parks and 2 times had gone with the group on a hunting outings to a nearby city parks.
I use the the WOT 15" coil as a preference and on trashy areas I switch to the SEF 10X12.

I got my E-Trac from Ralph. Gave me a great deal and is a good guy to do business with. While you're talking to Ralph, you should go ahead and pick up a SunRay probe and a small coil (SunRay X5). Knowing Ralph, he would would give you a good package deal on it. SunRay also has some of the best headphones and finds pouch on the market as well.

I am very happy with my E-trac although, I do kinda miss my fast response, light machine for quick hunts. The E-trac is very deep and the target ID and tones are good. It is a machine that you need to swing low and slow for maximum finds. I am putting an AT Pro on layaway for those quick hunts and some possible water hunts. I think you will really like the E-trac once you get the hang of it. It is not difficult to use but takes some time to really learn what all it can do. I am still in that process of learning. Good Luck with your purchase.

I have a bounty hunter. Hunted and hunted with the bounty hunter and had a blast. Invested in the E-Trac...Just WOW. You will be immediately satisfied with the performance, then your new relationship with metal detecting is opened up to grow with the E-Trac in whatever direction you wish.

You + $1500 + Ralph = E-Trac

Can not go wrong (unless you live near me, then stick with the BH)

So far, all responses to my question have been very positive about the etrac. How do you rate it for comfort. Is it heavy, light, balanced, battery life? Thank you for your feedback.

Ive run the other popular line of detectors for about the past 5-6 yrs. This past saturday my brother gave me the chance to run his etrac. I ran the machine like he had it set up, which was basically a very discriminated silver program. I couldnt believe it!! This thing hit coins like the hammer of Thor! I was hunting the same areas Ive been with my other detectors and know full well I found silver where I swung with my other machines. I hunted about three hours and ended up with a '53 rosy,'18 merc,'23 merc and 10 wheaties from two close by locations. All three silvers hit 12-43 to 45 with little variation. I found clad dimes were giving the same signal, so I didnt dig anything much less than five inches.I can honestly say, Ive stepped into the dark side and have seen the light  In the very near ffuture my "other brand" will be an etrac. FWIW, the etrac was a little heavier than what Im used to running but wasnt anything unmanageable by any means.

The E-Trac with the stock coil or a 12 x 10 SEF is very manageable and not an issue to swing for several hours and I've never had a fully charged battery run out on me. Now, if you like to swing a big coil (say a 15 x 12 SEF) then you'll need to use a Swingy Thingy to do that. I use the Swingy Thingy when hunting the beach with my 15 x 12 and I can hunt all day without any issues.

Grampsof4,,

I've had my E-Trac almost a year now and love it. Best detector I've ever used. Some people complain that its heavy, but I don't have any problem using it and I'm 60. The E-Trac is a silver finding machine once you learn it and learn to take your time. Its really pretty easy to learn. Good luck with your choice.

When I first got my used E-trac the battery did not last through the day but I ran it all the way down and then fully charged it and have had no problems hunting all day since. I was very concerned about the weight when I got mine because I have RA and an all day hunt takes its toll no matter what I swing however, I have used the E-trac on all day hunts and it hasn't been too bad. I have a harness for it but so far have not had to use it. I think that the slower speed swing doesn't wear on my joints quite as much as going like a madman on a mission with a lighter detector. I have been using my Sun Ray X-8 coil a lot lately and it makes the E-trac a different machine from the ProCoil. It's smaller size, less weight, and separation ability allow me to move at a decent pace and usually increases my coin finds unless I am covering a large area. I also have a X-5 and it is even lighter. Get the E-trac and join the club ... I think you will like it and not be disappointed. It is definitely a silver hound.

The E-Trac is made with two rods (upper and lower). The lower rod is the one that the coil is connected to. Many people buy extra lower rods to attach their additional coils to in order to be able to change them quickly and easily in the field.

Count me in as a happy E-Trac owner. It likes to hunt with low and slow swings and while all the settings may seem like overload at first they aren't bad and make it very versatile in different locations. I have pretty messed up shoulders and found it difficult to use for more then two hours or so. The balance is not the best. But then I got a Swing Thingy and all day hunts are easy, a wonderful addition!

Another nice feature is the sheer number of coil options available for different situations. Of course funding keeps most of us within reason but I have the X-5 which is a killer coil in heavy trash. A slow, careful and methodical approach with it has brought out goodies in places many won't even try. The stock coil is a very good general purpose coil. I am just now putting one of the new Ultimate 13" through it's paces and it's making me very happy with it's abilities, hoping to use it on the beach soon. Then there's the SEF coil family, the 15" WOT, X-8, oh you can spend a pile on 'em if you're so inclined! The idea though is they can make an already versatile machine even better in certain situations if we want to.

It's a hard hitter on silver and copper for sure but it also will hit gold jewelry and relics as well. Also finds plenty of lead for me. With it's capabilities I'm more than happy to hook up my Swing Thingy and take my time.
