DUMBER:bouncy:

We had a standing bet...and it wasn't to see who could dig the most keepers today if ANY. It was to see who would be stupid enough to bend down first and chisel through the frozen ground to get punked by clad.:smoke:

Dave WINS:bouncy:

Here's his prize :bouncy: :clapping:...a beauty of a 1965 Memorial cent:crylol: See the look of excitement on his face:poke:

About the time I got done chuckling at him...I get a sweet hit of my own.

I was promptly rewarded by this freakin' clad dime from 8". See the pretty brown colored disc at the bottom center of the hole:punch:

A while later Dave and I both got a wheatie...so we were now satisfied with a keeper apiece.

A few minutes later; Dave also got a roosey.

The snow piling up on the coil drove me crazy:stars:...as did the banging off of frozen ice clumps.

After over 3 hours...a couple of finger thawing trips back to the car...and 1 battery change...I finally got a nice sound through all the falsing.

I chiseled down about 3" with the pic axe...then removed the frozen plug so I could begin to dig with my digger.

Expecting to see another nasty brown colored clad dime pop out...I was shocked to see the glint of silver.:clapping:

Hey it's just one silver...and a simple 1943 Merc...but I was stoked.

For our 4 hours of hunting:) ...the goofs pictured (and I'm NOT talking about Hercules:bouncy:)...ended up with a silver and a wheatie each.

I got a Merc and a wheat...and Dave got a Roosey and a wheat.

Might not seem like 2 keepers apiece was worth fighting frozen fingers...frozen toes...and a little snot to the side of the face:smoke:...but trust me it WAS.

Thanks for viewing fellers'.

Way to go Bryce! Thats great findin silver in the middle of winter! :clapping:
I HATE this time of year!

I see no reason to mess with the headline... What shovels were you using? Jack hammer? How deep was the freeze line?

G..

Dave wasn't overly excited about being labeled as "dumber" instead of "dumb"...so we flipped a coin. He lost:smoke:

Ground was frozen to about the 3" level...then it wasn't bad diggin' after that.

Glad to see you and Dave made it out today. Nice looking ice picks you guys have there too.:clapping: At least you didn't get skunked and came home with silver. We did okay on our hunt today also, but I'm beat from swinging that SEF coil most of the day and will do my post tomorrow night. We got silver and a I got a crappy token. I'll explain that in my post tomorrow.

Eddie

That kind of digging is crazy. I dont know if i have the heart to tell you its going to be 74 here today. I went thur those numb fingers before i left.... you really have to want to be out there. Hard to concentrate when you are cold and you feel like you have to break concrete to get to the prize.... but you got some keepers for your time.

Dew

Hey I'm with you on that.
I spend time at my dads nursing home twice a day and it really makes a difference when I can hunt.
Way to go man.

Ok....you guys are going to make me do something I would never even consider before. And can I blame you guys when my wife thinks I've gone nuts? I recently got a good deal ($45) on a "used once" 9 X 12 coil for my Ace 250. But I think I'll wait until it warms up a tad. It's only -21 F outside this morning..

Now that's some dedicated hunting................wish I could get out, got the itch real bad.............but a good foot of snow on the ground and hard telling how deep the frost goes, I'll have to wait for Spring............at least you got my blood flowing with them silver finds!!!

WTG........Hawkeye Jim.

Hardcore, all I got to say about that!:please:

It was a lot of fun buddy. I think the best part was getting back in the car and circling the place about 20 times with the heater going so we could thaw out and hunt some more.:clapping:

Good thing I don't live in snow country because the way I feel about detecting I'd be out there digging in the snow too :detecting:. I got a merc and three wheat's yesterday but it was 74 degrees so I had a handicap . I bow to your perserverance :please: Well done!

Dave-IL you don't look thrilled with your memorial cent...lol. Seriously though nice finds in the snow.
McDave you got a good deal on that Ace coil.

WTG Dumb and Dumber !!!!!! Congrats on the silver and the wheats... You earned them digging in the snow and frozen ground....:clapping:
