Does anyone own and hunt with just one detector anymore?

I'm about 90% on one and 10% on the other, but that was in the past. Since I have a new detector I haven't got to use it might go to 100%.

I have that dilemma. I grab whichever detector seems to be the best choicle for the place and type of hunting I'm headed for. Quite often I'm packing my DeLeon or Conquistador umax as they're light to swing and are fine for most parks, tot lots and playfields.

wow so far only cosmic and websterz have just the one. I really thought there would have been more but the post is still young.

Cosmic Ive gone through a bit more than what you have but my hats off to you to whittle it down to just one.

Now the only reason to have another detector is for a loaner

If you don't try different detectors, how do you know what you have is up to snuff?

Also hunting for jewelry is whole different ball game than looking for old silver coins.

Besides, it's fun trying out different detectors. Fun is what it is all about. Right?

I'm down to 1 machine, the ML Safari, its a great all around MDer, great in the dirt or on the beach. Works for me

I enjoy having two completely different machines for different purposes ! The E-Trac for coins at parks and schools. The Whites TDI (pulse induction) for prospecting and relics. Variety is the spice of life !!!!

From what I've read, mastering ground balance on the TDI is a big part of being effective with it. Is this true?

My first detector was purchased in July 2012. Got a Sovereign GT. Picked up a ACE-250 in the hopes that my Grandchildren might hve an interest. None seemed to be interested so I sold it.

This past August I purchased a Excal II so that I could get in the water without being afraid of getting the GT wet and ruining it.

Recently I purchased a Second GT to have as a backup just in case.

Yes, however it is not difficult to GB . The TDI accelerates in High Mineralized soil that drives most other units crazy.

One e-trac and one Tesoro tiger shark. I would like to have a Tesoro compadre just for sh*ts and giggles.

Yep, saw one years ago at a DIV (IX) when it was finishing up the prototype phase. I was blown away by how deep these guys were finding stuff while the rest of us struggled to puzzle out good signals from bad.

Im down to just one,ETrac. But, I do want another one for the nasty iron ladden spots. ETrac is my in town detector because of all the spots loaded with modern type metals (aluminum) and old iron. But, in an area with mainly iron junk,I know I am missing targets (masking). Im sort of waiting it out til summer to see what may come up. If not, then I will purchase either an AT Pro (because of its iron audio),Tejon or maybe a MXT (pro). I am hoping one of our US companies comes up with something like the GMP.
I know for now,Im missing targets but feel pretty comfortable with some of the challenging finds Ive made with the ETrac and 4.5x7 excellerator coil (glad some of the ETrac guys talked me into that one).
I dont beach hunt, dont gold hunt and my soil is relative mild. So, I dont need a PI.
I like what Tabman had to say,,,,,have fun!!!
With all that said, I believe if you only have one style of hunt then you need to find one detector that works best for it and you. But, if you hunt in multi type hunts, you need to find other machines to work for you and that type of hunt.
Just dont forget to have fun.

Certainly agree with you John. The post is just meant to comment on how I myself was fine in the beginning with one, but have found so many reasons to own multiple detectors. Tabman was partially right and Ive always had fun whether owning 1 or 10(yep, have had that many at one time), but this hobby is truly different in this respect. Its not like this with my other hobbies and they are as affordable as metal detecting(kayaking and cycling). Maybe its just the impact of the forums. Real interesting replies so far. Thanks to all who have replied.
