do you leave your detector in your trunk even in the summer months?

I normally always leave my detector in my car, just in case, I hate to leave home w/o it, but is it safe to leave it in the trunk on hot summer days?

I would not put it in a trunk. I do have it in the front seat with me with the windows down a bit. Treat it just like a pet in the car.

ok I need to take it out then, I just know if I don't keep it in the car I will leave it at home and will be sorry I don't have it with me sometime.

I wouldnt.Probably theres something in instructions about storing in extreme temp. Sometimes If I get off work early I make the trip back home. Gas is still cheaper than a new detector.

I leave a detector in my truck but not my GTI 2500. Not because I'm worried about the heat but because if it was stolen I don't know what I would do.

Extreme heat can damage the detector.

same rules apply to leaving it in a car with windows up. if it's 90 outside it's probably over a hundred in the trunk. I had a guitar melt all the glue leaving it in the trunk. and as the coils are glued together i would assume much damage would occur. It sure would in this texas heat.

A parked vehicle is extreme heat. They found a dog dead in a car yesterday here in Nc. Temp reached 101 and they had to run tests to see what killed it. Just like KHOUSE said treat it like a pet.

Look in our owner's manual under maintenance----Try to avoid temperature extremes as much as possible, such as storing the detector in an trunk of an automobile during hot summer months or out doors in sub-freezing weather.

Depends on how hot your weather is. We don't have the blistering heat out here that they have in the Midwest and Southwest. I never take mine out of my van.

Trunks have a habbit of collecting dust. Dust and sand can be a detectors worst enemy. I take mine to work and then take it to the medical unit I work on. And it always becomes a conversation piece too....especially when it's the GTI 2500 and I make it talk

I'm like cwilk-it IS my pet and I don't know what I'd do without it. I have a $59 bounty hunter that I sometimes take with me and leave in the car. I got it at Wally World-it has dual tone disc and dang if the thing doesn't do just about as good as my others around the schools, etc..

I have left it in the trunk more often than not. I lived in Fl. I started forgetting to take it out of the trunk in the middle of summer with 90+ deg. every day in the totally unshaded driveway. Most summer day in WV. don't get over 85 deg. I am better at protecting it from the cold. I know it is one durable detector.

Usually keep mine in the house when not in use in the summer. I dont like to leave it in the car ,just an invitation for some 7448head to break in. I've used it in -5 fall weather whitout any battery warmer for a few hours.:detecting:

I try not to leave my GTP1350 in the car when its hot. In the fall or spring I think it would be fine, but today I think we hit 90 here in Erie, and our winters are pretty cold. Normal temps I dont worry, but outdoor temps above 75 or below 35 and Im careful not to leave it in the car too long. I once had an lcd watch have the diplay turn solid black and not clear up when I laid it on the seat of a boat I was fishing in. It sat in the sun for about 4 hours and killed it.

I usually keep them in the back of the car but not when its hot out. i heard it can damage the batteries and make them leak and ruin you detector. its happened to my dad once i guess. so no. in the heat of summer i bring them all in along with my pinpointers. just to be safe. i cant afford to just run out and get a new one any time soon.
