Do Minelabs go deeper than Whites?

:clapping:[quote Guvner]I don't need any nonsense from you. You're just all full of yourself and your rights to say anything you want. It's my forum and you will play by my rules. I gave you a friendly steer and you decided to rebuff me. You want to say anything else on this and you will suddenly find your posts all missing. Don't worry about who is thin skinned and who isn't. Maybe they just don't like you.

Get a clue...

Since I got my Super 12 and put it on the DFX, it's found more gold than my Excal...and I use the Excal more. Thing is, if the beach is sanded in, I have to use the Excal or my PI. But when I hit pockets of targets, with nails, tabs, sinkers, coins and the potential for gold, and the targets are not too deep, I want and like to use the DFX. I can program it for really fast recovery, Tone ID and the Signagraph will splash on the trash. Sometimes when there is tons of iron in close proximity, the Excal nulls too much. And then, I am not sure if I am missing targets.

All in all it's a loaded question.

Yes, a Minelab Excal or Explorer will go deeper than a Whites Prizm or Coinmaster.

No, a Minelab X-Terra 30 will not go deeper than a Whites DFX, MXT or PI Pro.

I think most of the experienced detectorists have either used or own an average of 6-8 detectors. (No, I did not do a poll..its a guess based on how many I used and had...and I think I am being conservative based on some of the other guys on the forums...and yes I am jealous when some of you have 15-20 of them !!!).

We realize that conditions, types of hunting, where the hunt is, what type of coil we use, time ( heck, sometimes I grab the Compadre for a quick hour hunt at the local park to clear my head), etc. make a BIG difference. We also realize that depth is a relative thing and lots of times it is not the most important factor.

I think from now on, whenever a post has a subject line of 'Which one is deeper ?', the standard answer should be ' I don't know...buy them both and let us know'.

Area the 6000 will not keep up with the Explorer...( Sorry, fact)....A good 3" difference in the depth on Quarter, and more on Dimes, and pennies. Is there a secret to running the 6000, or maybe different coil( Not stock) ....any advice would be appreciated on how you get the great depth.

If you are going to do a test just use something to flag the targets to mark them and compair the machines coil for coil. Make sure you run as high a Signal Balance as you can and the machine runs stable. I run mine a little hot but that is me. You have to play around some. Just do it like your book says and you will be pleased. I run the 5.3" coil,8" coil, 3.5" coil. I hardly ever run the 9.5" coil. Run min. Dis. and Accept Hot rocks. Hot rock down here won't pinpoint and the meter will defelect all the way to the right. Be careful though as some of the real deep targets do the same thing. Crank up dis to nails and see what happends when you pull the trigger as you will be in Dis. audio then and the depth meter will be reading your depth of your target. Check the depth of the target if real deep and a quick fast sound on the target dig. Crank up the Dis to nails and see what happends to the audio on the right deflections when you pull the trigger as you will be in the Dis. audio mode but you will be reading the depth of the target on the meter. Make sure you swing short fast swings over the target when you are in the trigger pulled Dis. mode. No problem for me. If it gets to be a problem then turn it to reject hot rocks. You will lose a little depth but not very much as long as you run min dis. I don't like the Dis mode as it is a 6 filter mode and you have to swing fast like the XLT. I will even use the TR mode and G/B it to the mineralization which is on Page 28 of your instructions to help you out. Not quite as deep as SAT but you can hunt slower then SAT. I just play around with that though when I am not in the bad stuff. I have about med mineralizationd down here. About 50 to 65 out of a hundred if you want to put a number to it. The mineralization is sort of a salt salinty and sulpher content here, which ain't bad. The Indians just get ate up though over time. The War nickles corrode bad also. Anyway try that. let me know how you come out. Oh BTW I am sending mine off Monday to get converted to that MOD that Converts the XLPRO to the Tones. WhOOOOO HOOOOO, man is it going to be A Bad A-- machine then. I can't wait till I get it back. I already really like the machine anyway. This machine has so many different hunting modes. Guys just don't take the time to really learn all of them and when to use them. Like I said on a salt water beach in the black sand the Exp. rules. Next time I go over to Fl. I am going to take my XLPRO and play around in the black salt sand in the TR mode and G/B to the black sand. I want to see what it will do. I just have not played with it much in the black sand . The 6000XLPRO is a lot of fun to play with because you can do so much with it. I hope I have not confused you. It is really not complicated after you learn and start playing around with the machine. DId I say I :inlove: my 6000XLPRO. :D: :D: Later, Jerry aka Tinfoil

This last December, on a Florida beach, I watched a husband/wife team methodically detect a large portion of the expanse. They spent hours out there. They each had well known brands,a Minelab and a Fischer. I didn't get a chance to see how they had done, but they were doing alot of digging. I prefer to hunt at sunset or later, so when I walked down toward the shoreline with my DFX, I came across a 14k two tone mans wedding band weighing 12.1 grams. They had to have either gone right over it, or at least close. So I don't think it really matters what machine you have, but listen to what it's telling you. I probably could have found it with a Radio Shack special if I had gone right over it. I've tried to upload the picture of the ring on the scale, but no luck. Maybe someday.

From another post I wrote about the whites pi in regards to DIV IX ......Yea it was impressive..brought my explorer and my infinium...the infinium pi could read the same signals and depth as the whites pi but the response was much slower...he could detect circles around me while I was having to swing the infinium slow and deliberate scraping the coil right on the ground ...he was able to cover ground much quicker with pinpoint accuracy....equals more good targets .also the whites pi could tune out square nails....Mr "b" said that he only dug 3 square nails the entire time using the new whites pi...that said better ground won't allow the nail to be rejected out all the way....... he was showing the explorer and mxt users where to dig the deeper signals they could NOT read at all ...now that is a humbling experience! The detectors that could detect accurately as deep with as quick of a response were the minelab 2000 series and 3500 series gold detectors...though they are at a price that was as high as the gold they detect now.. In low mineralized ground the difference will fade away somewhat...but in bad bad ground there is no comparison with the vlf units
