Seems to me that I see a lot of deeper targets on the Minelab forum. With my 6x10 DD coil on the MXT I tend to max out at around 5-7 inches, yet the minelab forum consistently has targets that are 8,9,10 inches deep while using the 6" excelerator coil. Does the Minelab line get deeper targets than the MXT?
As both companies make many units from both entry level to top of the line..From what I have seen top of the line Minelabs go a bit deeper but with a Whites you can cover much more ground as to get depth with a Minelab it requires a painfully slow speed while a Whites gets depth with a far much faster swing..Tough question with all the acc. coils available...

Generally speaking, yes. But that depends a lot on the user too, and how he has each detector set up. The 6X10 coil is not a very deep seeking coil, better known for it's separation in trash and it's use in mineralized ground. You will get more depth with the stock coil in most places. The Excelerator 10" DD is my favorite for general hunting, with depths better than an inch deeper than the stock coil. I use my Explorer for slow deep hunting and my DFX for all other uses. Like all detectors on the market, each has it's own best use. If someone would develop one detector that was the best in everything, it would be the only one on the market.
the Explorer is just a little deeper in better soil but has a much slower response time time IT FORCES YOU to SLOW DOWN which may be one of the reasons there seems to be better deeper finds....Nasty soil like VA favors the mxt/dfx a little...quicker recovery time as well BOTH are good machines...I watched the new Whites pre-release PI this last weekend at DIV IX kick everybody's butt by a mile except the top of the line minelab gold machine which is high dollar...In the future when PI technology can really discrim in good soil we won't be having this debate anymore
I am curious about the new Whites PI. You say you watched it kick butt, can you tell us how it did that, and which Minelab gold detector are you refering to? This new Whites detector coming out...if its a PI machine then its use is for Beach hunting and Prospecting? Not coins and jewelry?
Have they somehow combined all modes the way they did with the MXT?
You been on the Forums here since Jan 1 2008 and all you ever have to say is something all the rest of us that have a lot time on the Explorer already know. You need to change your name to Grasshopper. listen more then talk less. Now like I said when you get some time hunting, less time talking, more respect for older experienced guys, have more then two detectors, can add something constructive instead of trying to make people out as lier's. Then maybe you will get some respect. Again you don't have enough credibility to push anybodies button Grasshopper. Oh did I say Bite ME Grasshopper . You don't impress me one little bit. I just got back form hunting and am really to tired to comment anymore to someone with no creditability. You need to get out and hunt more instead of being a pest. Later Jerry aka Tinfoil

And I own the forum. I've had plenty of complaints about you. It's ok to give some honest opinions but if you're on another mans forum go play on your own. You aren't in charge of bringing in recruits anywhere.

Just answer a question and get out of Dodge.
Guvner..[/quote] since when are they considered THIS mans or THAT mans forum.....i used to own a light side detector at one time....NOT anymore...and here is why..first off i dont give a rats butt what kind of detector it is...if it aint workin for ya FIND one that DOES....i aint new to this stuff...ANOTHER reason is that the light side users are the ONLY guys on ANY FORUM ANYPLACE that get all excited and bent when a less than shining award is spoken about their machines...NO other brand user is like this ...yet you all claim NOT to be brand loyal....what a load of...........DARK SIDE users dont get miffed if somebody says something less than friendly about their machine..nor tesoro users or ANY OTHER brand ....nobody but you guys... oh well....considering you guys attitude maybe you do have something to whine about who knows....well I'm pretty sure this will get me booted so....live long detect hard and may the finds be many

Minelab users or any ither brand get just as PO'd when someone jumps in on thier forum and says something less than great about thier detector. You sir are full of crap and full of yourself.
I don't need any nonsense from you. You're just all full of yourself and your rights to say anything you want. It's my forum and you will play by my rules. I gave you a friendly steer and you decided to rebuff me. You want to say anything else on this and you will suddenly find your posts all missing. Don't worry about who is thin skinned and who isn't. Maybe they just don't like you.
