Hey...
You!!...Yes You!..sitting there at your computer reading this.
We gotta talk about something more that how cold it is outside. I realize you folks north of the Mason-Dixon go in hibernation this time of year but it don't mean ya' gotta stop talking. How about this??
My choice in metal detectors is the only one that makes sense. Any other decision someone has made is patently wrong and they should be banned from this forum forever. They should be taken out to be shot, burned at the stake, hung, then shot one more time and their ratty nasty body fed to the hogs.
Because I am right and they are wrong!!! They are liars, scam artists, up to no good, possible felons and aren't worth the air they are breathing.
That should get a response or twelve...

I know you are a relic hunter, but if Tesoro made a hopped up tone detector, with manual GB, (kinda like my Pantera on steroids) would you buy one? I'd like to know why Tesoro didnt make one to replace the Golden, before they made a detector to replace the Conquistidor. I like the tones, and would buy one of those before I would ever buy a V or C.

ps. Now do I have to be keel-hauled, or have some other mid-age torture done to me?

With posts like that you would fit right in on the "other" Tesoro forum . The posts on this forum get as many or more reads as on the "other" forum, which makes it seem rather odd that it doesn't get more posts. Could it be because there are some regular readers/occasional posters who shoot down excessive hype and/or exaggerated performance claims and don't get banned for doing so ?

To everyone that read and responded or didn't respond...
I wasn't talking about Tesoros new machines or even Tesoro. The point was that if you get that wound up about someones choice in machines...you sound as crazy as I did. If you think I will only use a Tesoro because that has been my favorite for a couple months...you are wrong. I will use whatever gets the job done..and really don't care whose name is on the box. You shouldn't either. Just because I express an opinion one month does not mean that I feel the same next month. We should never argue about which brand or model machine is better than the other. If you look around each manufacturers forums...you will see every one of them full of people who love thier machine and find plenty of stuff. How could that be true if there is only one machine that does the job. That is true because there is so many things that make a machine a good choice. You may love your machine and think that you are getting all the targets with it. I can tell you that you can hunt out a spot with one machine..then take another machine of a different type and find more targets. Detectors work differently and a low cost detector can beat a top of the line machine in some locations. There is really no need to argue which is best. They all are good in the right place and in the right hands.
Now..I am off my soapbox for a spell...Ya'll have at it...

BB...
I have lots of friends and TR is one of them. I was not thinking about anyone when I posted the above message.
These forums are not competing..they are simply different coffee shops to go into and talk to a different set of friends. At least that is the way I think about it. I have friends here also that I like to talk to...
Have a good one...

RS...
If you think about a progression of machines..it made sense to do the V & C first. What I want to see is a H.O.T. circuit with tone ID in a waterproof case. How soon will we see it? A ways down the road...too many other more important market segments.

that they would fall in line since they are the most similar to the Tejon, but it still would be nice to have something that I would want first

While I totally agree whit your post, since I am not normally bent in the direction of conflict.
I have learned to accept the fact that this is America and in this county it is the other persons right to their opinion.
The fact that they are clearly wrong is something I can accept and live with!

you were trolling for responses and I gave you mine albeit a somewhat joking one. Seriously, since we've been having weather conditions around here that renders detecting not an option, I've been following all the little dramas that you've been involved in at both forums. I know or at least assume that most of what you do is tongue in cheek and I suspect we'd have a great time hunting together. One thing that you do, even if in fun, and one that I suspect many struggle with, is opening up the can of worms where "my detector is better than yours". There is no doubt that ours is an awesome hobby offering many many paths for interesting fun and fullfillment. Unfortunately at times I've seen where there is a tendancy to make it way too competitive and when that happens, one person smiles and the other(s) don't, to some degree or another. There is a very fine line where good natured competing can become a real drag for some. Quite a few folks set up an overly competitive dynamic and then after the damage is done, backpeddle and try and soften things up. That's sorta like sucker punching someone and then quickly saying that you don't want to fight and that you think fighting really isn't good for anyone. How I address the competitive dynamic when it comes up within the hobby, I simply and vigorously compete with myself only, even though I always hunt with others. When I do this, I'm on a path of continual improvement with my detecting skills and I just let the chips fall where they may with others. If my buddies ask how and why I might be having more success than them, I tell them in a straight-forward, non-confrontational informative manner. If they have a better day than I do, I'm genuinely happy for them and just ask myself if there was anything I could/should have done differently to enhance my outing. I know what works best for me and currently it's several detectors, none of which are your favorite at the moment although I do own a Vaquero as well as a few other Tesoros. Now I could go ahead and waste all kinds of bandwidth expounding my experience and the fact that I thoroughly wring out MANY different brands and models of detectors, implying my opinion should be considered "significant". Considering that's a moot point IMO, I choose not to verbalize all of that and you do. Not a bad thing at all and it's just one of those little differences that occur in different individuals. I can respect that. I hunt in two basic modes, those being "casually" and "seriously". Tesoro makes some wonderful detectors for me when I'm in the casual mode but doesn't really offer what I want for the "seriously" mode. I hope they do some day and the sooner the better and I feel opportunities are there for them to capitalize on. The features I want are and have been somewhat spread across several Tesoro models. Actually, some of the features aren't even offered by them as of yet. What I want probably isn't a marketing home run for them so I'm not holding my breath.... just watching, testing, and waiting. BTW, Jim was right.... you got smoked!!!
HAGO, Ron!

Ya'all just weren't right for awhile there..haha There's too many reasons you might miss something. Heck, you can go back over the same hunted out ground you just hunted thirty minutes ago, and still find missed targets (With the same machine or any other one)....Even when you 'know' the place has been "Hunted Out". I laugh everytime I see the people pushing that issue for a new machine their selling. Also, The targets found are all at the 12-16 inch mark in depth to boot. It's hillarious
Welcome back, I hope you stick around and don't revert back and blame this period of sanity on your recent crud medicine....

How's that to get the waters muddy? Thinking about getting a Cibola for a backup. Our ground minerals here in S/E Texas are very low. Most of the time I run the X5 in fixed GB so the Cibola should do just fine. Hey, how do you set the Vaquero or Tejon GB if the minerals are so low it's just about impossible to set? HH John

John..
I know you said "backup detector" and I don't want you to have to rethink which one is gonna be a backup when you get the Cibola...
And I will agree with your statement about the Shadow X-5 kicking my detectors rear end. I got my tail whipped by a Sidewinder being used by a dang "girl" recently. Every detector has it's place where it's the greatest. No arguements on that.

Brad...
Finding an 1851 three cent piece, several nice minie balls, a 1700's period crucifix, a handful of flat buttons and other stuff..is the way I want to get smoked this weekend also. Only found two three cent pieces in my life and have found two in the last couple of months. That crucifix is the best French find I have ever made. That thing is gonna be the centerpiece in my French case. We find a lot of 1721 Colonies Francois coins here. They were minted for distribution only in the French colony in Mobile. Some are found in Canada but most of them are found here. Very nice coin. MagnumPi has a handful..still looking for my first. I have been on the site when lots of them have been found..but never have been lucky enough to get one...Maybe this year.
You have a good one...lot's of viewpoints were given of the saga last week. I wish Jim Martin had not taken it as far as he did.

In my mind, nobody gets smoked when detecting together. That can only happen when someone puts the competition factor in an otherwise good hunt. I think that's a shame when that happens. It just seems to go with the territory "over there". Those are definitely some nice finds for sure that you've been recovering! Hope they keep coming for ya!
