Do have the Right Stuff??..

Yep, thats the one, the Mogollon Rim (pr. "mo-go-yon"). For those who dont know, its the dividing line between lower desert and upper desert and it fairly splits the state in half. A near vertical rise in the landscape to the top of the mesaland, its where the former seashore wouldve been, a gazillion years ago,

I used to go up there with my buds to tramp around, rock hound, smoke weed, fish in the lakes and rivers and ingest other locally obtained desert plant "stuff" I probably shouldnt mention on a public forum.

I still remember the edge-of-the-earth vistas you get from the highest peaks. Awesome country.

When I am out thing I am proud to admit that I carry a sidearm sometimes. Depends on where I am at. Carrying a sidearm possibly saved my life once. I was searching an old homesite in the middle of a construction site when I saw a lone person comming across an open field toward me. He walked up within a dozen yards of me when I got an eerie feeling about him He looked like a bum. When he got close I turned sideways so he could see my gun on my hip and he stopped. He said he wanted no trouble, he was just hunting for arrowheads in the field and thought he would see what I was doing.I told him I hadn't found anything so he left to go find some more arrowheads. I watched him go on across the other field and he never looked down for any arrowheads but kept looking back at me. I decided it was time to leave. I feel if I had not had a sidearm on me there would have been a lot of trouble. Would hate to make him an XLT necktie. So much for my sob story. HH

...Youre right. Good bass fishing here and just about any thing else, too. But me personally, I'd trade it for AZ. I lived in Phoenix, worked in Tempe and scrounged all over the area. My favorite area in on the the "Rim: Payson, Prescott, etc.

You mean like peyote and the likes. :) Yeah Mogollon is pronounced muggy - yon. Used to do a lot of deer hunting up there. When I get around to it I'll tell you a couple of hunting stories, one involving my buddy and his 300 H&H that he used for deer hunting. :) I told him the muleys didn't grow as big as elephants there. :)

300 Holland and Holland for canyon country deer??! I thought my friend with his .300 Mag on our Carolina goats was something.

Yeah you should have seen the deer he ass shot. It went end to end, exited, and left little inside. :) Old Earl was always into overkill. Like when he took an Ardun overhead valve hemi head Ford 60 engine out of a midget racer and we installed it in his 16 foot boat. I warned him about it and the first time we put it in the water and he popped the throttle he damned near rolled the boat over from the torque. I stood on shore and laughed my guts out.
