Dixie Mods For Sov GT

SurfPro

New member
Just wondering if any beach hunters using the Sov GT have done the Dixie mod? If so, please let us know your thoughts.

I had a Sovereign Elite that had the mod done. I felt it did give me more depth. I have since sold that detector. I plan on sending my GT in to have it done. What is exactly done to the unit is mystery to me. In fact the guy would not even tell me what he did.

Was there anything different about it other than the depth? ie... tones, sensitivity settings etc...

It must kill the warranty, right?

Yes it kills the warranty. But I had the meter mod done to it plus both my Sovereigns were 2nd hand units. Warranty was never a thought to me.

Somebody said the guy used to work for Minelab. I've never been able to find any information on what he does. My best guess is that he's using better quality components to clean up the noise on the RX gain (sensitivity). Less noise equals a higher sensitivity setting without degrading the target signal. That guess is a stab in the dark at best, though.

Dixie Mods ok but how was the power for a gold neck chain for example :clapping:
Please and can give you more information on the reaction of GT compared with the other GT .

I own an Excal II and am considering adding a GT to my arsenal. Personally I would be a little hesitant to have someone perform modifications, especially if they are not willing to explain what it is that they are doing. What happens if down the line the unit needs to be serviced by Minelab (in or out of warranty) but now there are modifications in place that both yourself and Minelab don't know about?

David is the only person authorized by Minelab to perform these modifications. Minelab requires that these modifications not be explained to the public, as the information is to be held confidential like the rest of the workings of the detector.
The last I knew, the modifications did not void the warranty.

Interesting. Been thinking about getting it done to my GT.

I not positive what it all does, but it's more sensitive and I think, please don't ask me to be technical, the mods do something to the bandwidth of the discrimation settings. If you want to know call him, he's a great guy, is mods make the GT hotter.

Spoke to Dave years ago about this (at least 7yrs.)and at that time he informeed me the mod he was doing opened up the audio response for better seperation on the tones, makeing it easier to seperate targets.
Had it done to one I purchased from him but ended up selling it before I got to use it.(Money issues)Then ended up trying every other machine that came down the pike without getting another one.
Dave is authorized to do this mod and has a unique relationship with minelab.Back when the sov. was in its infancy he hit a cache of C.S. belt buckles, and the rest is history.Minelab was using his picture with the cache as an ad about 14yrs ago.
Probably one of the most upfront guy you can talk too about relic hunting that this troop has had the pleasure of dealing with

Hello.
Can you tell me what if I want to do the Dixie Mod, and I live in France?
Do you think it would be possible for me to make this change.
Rajae, Bordeaux - France.

If it just improves the tones that wouldn't jive with the better depth people report. I've never heard it improved the tone quality, just that it made the machine a little deeper?

Sorry Bro,but thats what he explained to me,that many years ago.He may have been doing some gain adjustments also but I dont recall him mentioning that. This was back before minelab had the single tone switch that the evil empire (Kel....) was selling. And folks were complaing about not being able to differentiate the different tones. So Dave told me that what he was doing gave a little more definition to the different tones. This was back when the Sunray meter was The Only meter that was any good, and folks were haveing a hard time understanding what the machine was telling them.
Sorry I cant say more but at the time thats what was explained to me

OK, we're not sure what he does to it. Not sure if it works. How much does this cost? Sign me up:rofl:
