Diving with a Excal or Tesoro Tiger Shark?

Crenman

Member
Hey guys looking for some opinions.
I am a certified diver and have 6 productive fresh water lakes i hunt with my excall.
I have never dove to detect these deeper swim areas i have always wade hunted and am thinking about diving it before the year the season is up.
I have a excal 2 set up with a strait shaft i made and a Tesoro tiger shark. I am having a tough time picking one to set up for diving.
I am also contemplating waiting until next spring to take a week off and dive these lakes. Any suggestions?

Make a shaft that either one will fit on or make a shaft for each. That way you can trade off and see which one works out best for you. I would go in with the Tiger first get the chains and shallow stuff. Then hit it again with the Excal for the "deepies".

Best Regards,
Steve

Steve's correct. With a little planning you can make a short shaft for diving that will fit both the Excal and the TS. It might take a little looking or scrounging for parts.

I dive with both the TS and the CZ-21. I have used both as hip mounts, with a dive belt buckle release system, as well as mounting them on top of or below the angled part that the arm rests in, and the handle sticks up from. I did get some extra wet suit material and made a velcro cover that wrapped around the control unit when externally mounting it. Keeps it from getting bumped hard or scratched when you lay it down to recover a targer. Consider the thickness and amount of wet suit material you add as of course it will increase the buoyancy of the control housing.

I used the shaft that came with the TS, drilled some extra holes in the top part of the shaft so I could use the standard clips the TS uses. Now it can sit on top when diving or I can take it off and hook it underneath like you would for wading.

When I hip mount I use nothing other than the short rod that would slide up into the main part of the shaft. That way the coil is right in front of me and it works just like hip mounting a land detector. You don't have to worry about swinging the weight nor fighting the effect of the water pushing back against the control unit as you try to move it in the water. Hope this gives you some ideas to solve the problem your way and get the loot. jim

Thanks for the advise i am going to grab some stuff to make a shaft for the excall and I looked at the way the tiger sets up for diving last night and i think i am going to like it
I will just have to take both and see whats out there. I know for a fact none of these places have been dove so i should clean house!
Thanks again and Happy hunting.

Wish Steve and I were close. If it's a cherry spot, we would be happy to 'follow' and be the rescue divers. Somebody might have to help you return to shore with all that gold in your pockets. jim
