Traveled a little distance from home. Alot of time and research had gone into this area I had been wanting to hunt. Regrettably the landowner decline permission for now but hinted a possible hunt in near future. BIG LET DOWN for now. This took all morning so I drove back to another area closer to home I had researched. Fortunetly I located the landowner who I had been trying to make contact for 3 years now. Permission granted and he told me the History of the land and thought that the hobby I did was really cool! There was many acres to cover and after two hours I finally located a hot spot. Slowed down and really worked the area hard. I can't describe to you the feeling I get after working my butt off and finally start to hear the brass come through! I am in a state of shock in reference to the Tongue I found. Just been informed that this is the RAREST OF ALL stamped brass Tongues!!! Thanks for looking and you all have a GREAT WEEK!!!

Steve

Man, you did indeed find yourself a hot spot!!
Hard to tell what else is in there..... I hope you find the other part to that buckle.
Congradulations and good luck,
Felix

Thats a beauty !! Whats the age on it? Congrats on the awesome tongue. Came out pretty clean. Ron

A very good afternoon for sure. I would still be dead if I rolled one of them up out of the ground. Congradulations!!!d2

Been doing a little research on Dragoon Epaulettes which were not like the segmented CW shoulder scales we typically find. Looks like the piece in the picture looks like a base for one. Here are some pictures showing what a 1st Dragoon would look like and perhaps enlisted.

There is an interesting article at:http://www.history.army.mil/reference/1839U.htm about dress regulations for Dragoons.

You may very well be right Dave on that epuallete. Thanks for the research and the link, I've got it put into my Favorites for future references. I was also leaning towards a possible Indian "gorget" they loved to wear big shiney brass and trinkets.

Steve: Could you post some more picture of the "Y" relic in the lower left of one of your pictures. It it one or two relics? Can't tell. Think I might know what it might be. It harmonica sounding board complete or broken? Dave

Steve: Been looking at your relic picture and decided its actually 2 relics. I have isolated one of the two from your picture and reversed the view of it to produce the first picture. [attachment 140141 candlehandleholder.jpg]... I believe this to be from a candle holder similar to the one shown in picture 2 except there is a protrusion for the index finger at the bottom of the loop.. [attachment 140144 910026.jpg] ...and finally the last picture shows a similar relic found at Ft. Ross in California [attachment 140145 CandleHolder_FtRossMagasin.jpg].

Pretty interesting stuff you are finding. See you soon. Dave Poche
