Discrimination vs. Notch??

Member
I've been using a Deus 1 since 2014 and am currently waiting for my new Deus 2 to arrive. I'm not fully understanding the difference(s) between discrimination and notch. I've read about these settings and watched videos but I'm missing something.
If a user wanted to set a detector to ignore all TID's from, for example, 0 to 30, what's the difference in discriminating or notching TID's 0 to 30? Also, what's the advantage/disadvantage of discriminating 0 to 10, then notching 11 to 30, or disc. 0 to 5 and notching 6 to 30, or 0 to 20 and 21 to 30?

Ah the great debate! Disc versus Notch. Personally I don't think there is much difference in performance between the two. I am sure others will have different opinions. However if you want to use Iron Volume you do need to run some Disc.

I know that Iron Volume controls the tones of the discriminated TIDs and notched TIDs are silent. Is that the only difference??

You can't discriminate from 0 to anything. Disc starts at the lowest possible setting, -6.4. Notch can start anywhere and end anywhere. This allows you to cut out any numbers you do not like. You can notch out from -6.4 to 30 or any other number, but it takes much longer than just discriminating the same. The advantage of notch is that you can disc out any numbers you don't like, i.e., you can notch out everything except nickels if you want. No way to do that with disc.
