Discrimination Question

Working a trashy area today so I disc out everything but zinc and silver. Dug some targets and they were nails and a couple fragments of aluminum. They would sound off in the ground but would not when air tested. Normal for the delta?

You've asked a rather popular question, but left out some details. A few questions, actually, are how long have you owned and use the Teknetics Delta?

How long have you been metal detecting in the past, or should I ask is this your first detector?

I'll presume you were using the stock 8" concentric coil, but you didn't mention the Sensitivity setting you used, and didn't really define the type of "trashy area" you worked. If it is quite trashy did you sweep slowly to work in and around the trashy?

Many aluminum pieces, based on size and such, might fall in the Zinc 1

Second detector. Had the Delta about two weeks. Been detecting about six months. I'm sure its the user and not the machine......I really like the delta but I'm sure it will take me some time to learn it......Was detecting an old school site. A two story that was torn down in the thirties. Lots of nails about six inches deep....using the 8" coil with the sensitivity at seven or eight. More nails than aluminum. The aluminum would give a solid signal and the nails usually would jump from zinc to silver......thanks for the tips.

old school site. The fact that they are deeper adds to the challenge of classifying them. With only 6 months in you've got a lot of learning to do, and it can all be enjoyable, too, since you'll b hunting many different locations.

Best of success with a very good "get started" detector in the Delta.

Good advice Monte, as usual.
It's. All a learning game. Take time and enjoy
Being out and about, but listen to the machine and try to remember what the tid read when you recover the object and take note. Soon it will be a little easier to tell the junk Fromm the goods. Me I dig everything trying to learn, and save some trouble for the next time.

If I am at a school that is in use I pull every thing especially
nails and can slaw. Keeps the kids from getting hurt and it won't be there next time.
