Urban Renewal for the greater good,i don't think I want to metal detect there though without the swat teamLOL
 
Most treasure hunter's in my area have a concealed weapons permit and in bad neighborhoods carry,including myself.We don't hunt Detroit its not a friendly environment.I'm sure the welcome wagon would be out around these boarded up crack houses.The dynamics are very negative it would be interesting to see long you would last on your hunt.HH Ron
 
I wouldn't go if you paid me anyhow,besides all you would find is dirty needles,metal bongs,bullet casings most likely nine mill.etc etc and don't forget the bodies!

LOL Detroit?? Go there every week from Port Huron and unless I had an armored personnel carrier full of ppl watching me guns ready I woudn't get cought in any of the areas they are going to tear down the houses!!!

5 police officers shot one killed from a guy with a gun in a VACANT house. NOOOOOO silver dime is worth your life, Concealed weapons permit or not. You just might not get the chance to use it.

I put Applications in at two of the wrecking companys . First I need a JOB !!!! and second the things that can be found ????? If I find a body or two well I always wanted a skull for my book shelf . Heck I might get lucky and get a famous skull ( Jimmy Hoffa ) and the other some unlucky sap . Who knows many of the hoods there going into are very old and very empty . I talked with a guy from Beal and maybe just maybe I'll get some grunt work ?
 
Wow. Just think how many metal detectors will be lined up waiting to get a shot
at all those houses or empty lots.

There were many many beautifully homes, built by the Auto Barons. I was just downtown on Monday and it breaks my heart seeing all of those lovely homes sitting abandoned. It would be great to hunt some of those old homes but it just isn't worth getting robbed or killed over. I have a very good friend who is a Lieutenant in the Detroit Police department and he tells me all the time Stay Away!!. It is FAR worse down there than is being reported. Such a shame what was done to this city.
 
Robo , your right many people just don't know how bad it is . But I've detected Palmer park and Rouge and have had no problem . But I only go with a bunch of friends and my buddy Taurus 44 mag . Several of us carry just in case . A friend of mine Karl is out of what was the 9Th and some one came in the station parking lot and stole his car . And a few years ago some guy he pissed off came out to where he lived and shot him walking out of his home . Just plane messed up .
 
Hey if you ever go down to detect with a bunch of guys I would be interested. I also carry an "Equalizer" 9mm. Legally of course.
 
You will NEVER be able to "hunt-out" Detroit.

Ever.

That said, if you chose you spots smartly, and watch carefully, you can find alot of nice coins there.

After I made the post several days after there were some replys, why not.

I remembered having co-workers that left that part of the city after going to jail for various offenses
and moved south. They told me what happens in the hood. And being the wrong skin shade with blonde
hair would made me a living target. The nasty people who inhabit that area have no conscious, your just another
fly to swat and kill................if going detecting there better wear full body armour and rig up a shotgun barrel as your detector's
upper and lower rod shafts along with a secondary trigger switch on the handle.
