That show is bad for the hobby on all levels. Glad it is not minelabs they use. Although on next weeks show they will likely find the Button that held the CRAP FLAP on George Washington's long johns. HH Dave
You nailed it !!! ......... LOL ....... It's amazing how every piece of crap or "nectar" they dig up is related to the famous one and only person of interest ( Wild Bill Hick-cock).(Captain so and so) . It only takes one viewing of this show to switch the channel !!!

Now if we can figure out how to get the general public to turn it off !!!!

Or at least..................... Have a disclaimer saying for entertainment purposes only. Finds and Antics are not the norm in the Hobby of Metal Detecting..

It is guilt by association. People not familiar with the hobby watch these shows and base thier opinions of the hobby to some degree from them. When you or I knock on thier door and try to get permission to detect thier property they think based on having seen these shows we are either going to be hanging from the trees screaming as in the case of Diggers or taking two saw blades a copper broiler and a hammer head to town and selling them for $6000.00 as soon as we leave from having watched the other. I have heard several negitive comments from property owners who have seen these shows and for one feel they place us all in a situation of explaining to people that those shows in no way reflect the hobby, value of things or the people who take part in the hobby. Off my soap box now and HH Dave

X2

I feel that the people who watch this show and have never detected before just may get the bug like everyone here and a few may have the funds to but an etrac...what do you think???Isn't that the name of the game...

I've seen people on TV that's hit the lottery and they don't climb trees, crawl through Dog houses, do cartwheels, roll on the ground, fall in the water, crap their pants or jump over bushes. Why? Because they don't want to look like idiots. If I was hunting with anyone that did any of those things I would simply detect back to my car and drive off. "Ain't nobody got time for that!" :detecting:

Those bafoons get to search historic sites most to none of us could ever dream of searching.

And they usually find what they're looking for. In one episode they were on a quest for gold coins, i think it was somewhere in New Orleans.
Guess what, they found a gold coin in a tiny grassy area! Predictable!

Far as the above comment regarding Garrett having nothing to do with the show!
When i ordered my ATPro directly from Garrett a couple years ago, the person on the phone made clear the Pro's connection with the show. Sure sounded like a selling point to me.

I've dug a lot of deep targets both keepers and lotsa junk. Yet i don't seem to remember any of them two bafoons digging anything deeper than 5 or 6 inches.

I'll watch the show if (one) i got nothing better to do, (two) there's nothing better to watch which is rare with a couple hundred cable channels.

Yep, roundness in the hole or nectar, take your pick!

It looks and sounds to me that most everyone on this forum watches the show on a regular basis, that says something...All I am saying is that I would like to see them using etracs and then they would be digging a lot deeper than 5/6 inches...

I can't speak for the other's..........but IF I watch it,it is only because there isn't any other "detecting" shows on during the long, frozen, winter.

No matter how many disclaimers they add some people are not going to like the show. If you don't like it don't watch but quit crying about it. It's just a show and there is no reality in realty T.V.

Your right - it's just a show. But with parks being closed everyday to hunting these shows don't help. All it takes is for one board member or a parks superintendent to see one of these shows and try to make a move to keep "our kind" out of their parks. You can't convince them it's just a show.
It seems like the hard work the hobby has laid for years conveying all the good we do has been torn down in just a couple of years.

You gotta wonder how many folks watch that show and think everything they do on there is reality? Then I imagine what they might see in their mind when you ask, "would you mind if I detect your yard". Does the little old lady imagine you doing summersaults and cartwheels and diving over her rose bushes and banging your head against her beautiful crimson maple tree every time you find "roundness in the hole"? I don't see the show doing much for our sport. I'm sure it helps Garrett sell a bunch of " over rated detectors ". IMHO

While I love my E-Trac I wouldn't call it the "best" all-around detector. I think what they use is one of the better cheap all-around detectors. I think the E-Trac, and CTX, can be called the king of deep copper and silver coins, not everyone hunts for just that. I've always considered the E-Trac and CTX more a specialized detector rather than something I would use everywhere. For that I use my AT Pro or DFX.

If the show wasn't a setup, who would watch it? If they showed the realities of MDing, it would be long hours of finding junk and clad coins and general boredom. I have watched the show and some of the things they uncover look a bit to clean to have been in the ground for a long time. The script borders on being childlike that they exclaim that "this could have been Benedict Arnolds button" and things like that make them look like idiots. Not to mention the maniacal behavior. They must be getting payed good to talk and act like overgrown children. I don't see that show being around too long. Dig Wars didn't last and at least that show was a bit more believable. :pulltab:

I Live in Idaho. Those blithering idiotic Diggers came to IDAHO and searched an old Mormon Ghost Town which is an historical site. Shortly after their program aired showing these idiots, the locals promptly closed many of the good search areas to the local detectorists. I wrote to NatGeo and expressed my dissatisfaction and have since boycotted their station. It would be one thing to show a couple of guys detecting and their finds but these guys can't even make a proper recovery of the items they are going after. We live in a nearly arid part of the state where the ground gets very dry in the summer. Digging gaping holes all over kingdom come in this area leave dead spots every where. People don't like their properties damaged.

3 pages on this subject? If everyone hates it so much why talk about it? I learned as a kid that it is very easy to be judgemental when you don't look in the mirror. Maybe everyone shoul use there time to promote a positive image of the hobby instead of pissin and moanin about 2 guys they say they can't stand. Grow up and get over yourselves.

I guess your right. Heck, if someone filmed me digging tabs and foil all day no one would watch. I just wished they would have picked another Hobby to show case. However Bob Ross painting had a long run painting trees not climbing them. Maybe something to be learned there?

I'm grown up enough to know the vast majority of detectorists don't somersault, cartwheel and run around the place when they find a good target. Those two idiots on that show are the ones who need to grow up. I can understand getting excited when finding a great keeper, but cartwheeling around the place!

The underlying issue with that show and those buffoons as many have already mentioned is that show casts a negative light on ALL detectorists viewed by the non-detecting public.

The show has the potential to negatively impact the hobby of metal detecting in the long run.
Either by design or not, the show like it or not is a defacto subliminal sales pitch for people to get interested in detecting which means newbies buying detectors.

A certain percentage of these newfound diggers inspired newbies as a result of that show are now gonna go out and dig up places, leave bad plugs and sloppily or unfilled holes... resulting in more metal detecting bans.
And i have no doubt, that a certain percentage of those diggers inspired newbies are gonna cartwheel, somersault and run around the place thinking that's what they have to do when they find a good target.

Diggers might be a little more tolerable if they cut out the goofy gymnastics and instead spend that somersaulting time showing how to dig proper plugs, asking permissions, where not to hunt, actually show them digging the junk, etc.
There is little to none information on how to properly metal detect on that show, just goofiness and likely some planted targets to keep the show alive.
