Diggers

Been watching the TV show Diggers which is fairly entertaining, however if a TV network is going to go all out like that, why in hell don't the guys use the best detectors...ETRAC!!!

DiggerODirt has it right.

Because those two yahoos on that show are jumping, screaming, rolling-around blithering idiots! :jump:

Why would Minelab want to be associated with idiots?

But they may find lots more silver and boost the detector sales. Remember, it's all about the the success of advertising...

better than that stupid ML commercial there a month ago ... Garrett sponsors the show so that's what they use

That show is bad for the hobby on all levels. Glad it is not minelabs they use. Although on next weeks show they will likely find the Button that held the CRAP FLAP on George Washington's long johns. HH Dave

You nailed it !!! ......... LOL ....... It's amazing how every piece of crap or "nectar" they dig up is related to the famous one and only person of interest ( Wild Bill Hick-cock).(Captain so and so) . It only takes one viewing of this show to switch the channel !!!

well I love it and they turn everything over to the land owner or museum, so big deal they get excited when they make a good find and who wants to see them dig foil.

I like the show personally they get kinda hyped up but they seem pretty genuine to the hobbie. You guys complaining about them obviously never seen the other show with the ex wwf wrestler on it. Oh my god it will make you sick its actually hard to watch no joke. Plus diggers use that garret I say good more people will want to get that machine and that will help clean out the parks of clad. I hate orange dimes!

I too watch this show but I'm unsure how much of it is legit. Soil they dig is wet earth but the item comes out dry? Granted they act up to make the show more appealing but that just takes away from those of us that dont do cartwheels when we find an Indian head. I'm sure some of the finds are legit but if you watch closely you Will notice that some of the holes are already dug. I'm not sure if the do that sometimes to see if its good enough to film or not. I'm not sure why i continue to watch this show, maybe because i cant get out everyday to detect.

From the way those two act, I think they did dig foil and chewed it against there tooth fillings to make them jump arround like fools ! ("nectar"):jump:

It's a fun show. Part entertainment, part learning, doesn't really teach much about metal detecting, but it may spark the interests of some. As for brand loyalty? I think that's a joke. Garrett made the AT Pro they number 1 detector from this show.

It is guilt by association. People not familiar with the hobby watch these shows and base thier opinions of the hobby to some degree from them. When you or I knock on thier door and try to get permission to detect thier property they think based on having seen these shows we are either going to be hanging from the trees screaming as in the case of Diggers or taking two saw blades a copper broiler and a hammer head to town and selling them for $6000.00 as soon as we leave from having watched the other. I have heard several negitive comments from property owners who have seen these shows and for one feel they place us all in a situation of explaining to people that those shows in no way reflect the hobby, value of things or the people who take part in the hobby. Off my soap box now and HH Dave

I like that show and not many metal detecting on TV! I think Garrett paid guys to use their equipment! I know they use AT PRO and sometime Garrett 2500! Maybe we need new show and use Minelab! Digging Wars and Mystery Oak Island used Minelab but the show is gone! I also noticed that Minelab don't in Eastern&Western Treasure, Lost Treasure and American Digger magazines advertising! Minelab seem more quite than a few years ago!

Also when they are uncovering a target they slowly work their way to it. Then when they reach it you can tell it's already loose. This means they have replanted the item in the loose dirt. I kind of get that so they can already have their stories rehearsed on that particular item. But the acting like fools is what kills it for me. My wife doesn't hunt but says she is embarrassed to have these guys representing us on TV. If they would just tone it down some!!!! I know the angle is a lot different if your not a hunter. My friends that don't hunt themselves are always talking about how cool the show is. So I guess the producers know how to sell shows.... I used to spend a few minutes explaining that this is not how we act. But now I just save my breath..... I have turned the negative into a positive. When people find out I detect they always reference a detecting show. That opens the door in asking if they have anywhere I can hunt. So far I secured permission on 2 properties. So it's possible to make something good out of these shows..

I've grown tired of defending myself and others that we are not fools in the field "as seen on TV" But when someone now mentiones how cool one of the shows are I'll just ask them if they have a place I can detect. It works pretty good.

Look at the bright side, less people buying and using eTRACs!:detecting::twodetecting: :twodetecting::detecting::twodetecting::detecting::look::surprised:

Yep, its all about marketing to the targeted demographic, which is adult Men in flyover Country.

To the networks credit, they DID try Etracs on the first demo reel, under the working title "Rainbow Boys"... the focus group determined the flutey Etrac whistle, though pleasant at a drum circle, accentuated the femininity of the hosts, so they opted for the more baritone, "manly" sound of the AtPro.. They said their viewership in the heartland preferred Toby Keith over Michael Jackson!. Can you believe that?

just kidding guys!

I thought Garrett came out and said they have nothing to do with the show? But your right about the last ML commercial. That was way out there??????
