"Diggers"

New member
Did anyone happen to watch "Diggers" on NatGeo last night? Some of the finds were interesting; however, I could have done without the goofy side-bets and overly enthusiastic gymnastics every time they found something cool. What do you think?

I seen a couple of episodes last week and I would have to agree with you about the goofiness and side bets...........but I guess if you were new to the world of metal detecting, you'd probably think it was great.........I'd rather watch the videos from members on this forum!!! :detecting::cheers:

OK for newbies i guess. Ive hunted with a lot of good people over the last 30 years and really never got that bent out of shape competitivly.

By the way , the videos shown by the members of this forum are highly enjoyable and infomative.I always look forward to viewing them!!

I'm worried about what these buffoons are going to do to our hobby...laws..negative attention,no real respect for the history....

I watched the 2 shows, one in the prison yard and the other on southern plantation. I know that they have to do some extra antics, to keep interest, but they are way beyond anything I can enjoy. They have said nothing about the responsibility of not doing any damage or the appearance there of to the area being detected. They do not use a cloth to keep the dirt in so that they can get it all back in the hole. I am the local complainer about doing such a neat job, that no one can tell that you have been there. If you know of any parks or areas where metal detecting is not allowed, guess why. It is because someone went there with a new detector and a big shovel and left a mess. Even if the plug is replaced, if dirt is left around, it looks like damage is done. Remember that someones perception is their reality and if they perceive damage, there is damage to them. I hope this show gets a lot more professional and presents our hobby in a light that is favorable to us as metal detecting in a park or school is a privilege and not a right.

excellent point! well taken! this is exactly WHAT
we are ranting about with this show! i,as well as just about everybody
is concerned about being able to go places and detect in the future!
this kind of irresponsible behavior ie: poor digging, not properly covering holes,
stupid child like antics will register in the public's mind, and could very well create issues
for ALL of us in the future!..just sayin'

My wife of 30+ years watched it with me...Or at least the first few minutes, (I had the remote)...she asked me if thats what I act like when I find something, and if all my crummy friends on this site are the same...then she wanted to know what kind of outfit I'll be wearing in the gay pride parade this year...

I personally hated the show for what it means to my future hobby... the lingo was absurd and these guys coudn't dig a proper plug if they practiced.
and yes I do have a "dance" I do when I find something good...kind of a cross between the row boat and stirring the pot! yeh I look like an IDIOT but how many others have pulled a almost 200 year old coin out of the ground?!?!

You should do a video of your dance and post it. I do not dance, but I do congratulate myself and pump my fist like Tiger Woods.

Forward to 18 seconds in to this video...I'm thinkin about starting to do this as my "just found silver" dance. What do you think?

Now, that would be hilarious:wiggle:. The only people in the world that would know why you are dancing in the middle of a park, field, etc., would be another MDer:detecting:. The rest of the world would think you are off your rocker and would stay clear:wacko:.

I dont dance either, but I do wet myself when I find something good, and that seems to help keep people from bothering me...

Stupid show! Now I have only been detecting 20 some years, I got to a age where I don't want to remember how
long I have been detecting, but does anyone else use terms like "juice" or the other terms they used and then
showed on the screen or do a cartwheel?

Also I really don't want the world to know what I find and where I find my stuff! Way too many
people who might show up at your home when you are away. My best detecting buddy had all his coin
stolen from his house, lucky for him police located them before one of those coin machines found them!

We know they are trying to sell their show but this was too much. IMHO

yeah! nice! damn show will put the 'screws" to all of us!
definitely "bad" for the reputation!..

i agree! it is NOT paranoid to think this way!
ya gotta pay attention to this kind of stuff
because it CAN happen to ya!..just sayin'

quite frankly,if i find somethin' real good,
i have an accidental 'bowel" movement,
and start "dribblin" down my leg! this does
indeed have a strong tendency to keep people
a "safe" distance!.this has happened a few times
just sayin'
