Diggers show on NatGeo

Between you and FMJ you have a whopping 7 posts combined! Five of seven look like damage control for a show that portrays metal detecting in a bad light. The other two questions were simply lead ins to the real meaning you two joined the forums.
Why should you care anyway? You guys will be out of detecting soon after you buy your National Geographic metal detectors and find that you don't make $500 a day digging coins and relics. Don't forget to cover your holes. Remember the grass part goes on top.

Also it's mentioned that the Meteorite men make holes the size of cars. This is true. But the big difference is that they are in known strewn fields in farmers fields with permission of the land owner. Also they agree to split any money they may make with the land owner.

Hi. I've been curiously reading the comments concerning the two new digger episodes on the web and it has been quite interesting. Each side definitely has some very strong opinions on the show and subject of digging. So much about the actual digging has all be assumptions and alot of false info is out there and I wanted to chime in. I hope tv audiences could remember that this show is for 'entertainment'. Not to teach someone how to properly dig, etc. And with TV we all know what you see is probably not real and staged. I can tell you at the plantation in S.Carolina, there was a trained Dr of Paleontology observing the few digs down on the grounds. This paleontologist has completed digs worldwide from Anartica to Africa..but in 21 minutes of TV...now way to cover all of that kind of stuff. The two diggers were only allowed to do what they do in certain areas of the plantation, and not the known critical sites. I surmise that there are critics that say the resident hound dog of Fenwick Hall Plantation, LuLu, should not be allowed to dig her holes as she does daily either. The owners of the plantation are doing everything humanly possible to preserve the 300 year old place including the grounds, and would never allow rampant or unsupervised digs. Now for the other segments of filming, the Kiawah Beach scene and the James Island digs, I have no knowledge of who or what was involved in those digs. Don't believe all what you see or hear on tv!

Well I know this is an old thread but here is my 2 cents. Are "Archeaologists" judged by movies like Indiana Jones or the Mummy? I think not, although there are alot of morons in the world, most people DON'T believe everything that they see on tv. It's a show for entertainment to entertain regular folks who know nothing about metal detecting but want to see the great finds and not be bored to tears waiting for it. I'm sorry, I think the show is ok, some of the catch phrases and nicknames for finds really get on my nerves and are quite honestly stupid, but that doesn't keep me from watching the show. And if there are some Archeaoligists sitting around getting ready to use this show against us well then I say we just fire up the Indiana Jones DVD's and compare notes. Yes that is ludicris and yes that is my point!

All they have to do is run a disclaimer across the screen. "These idiots write their own scripts and stage all recoveries. Respectable metal detectorists are entirely professional. This show is for entertainment purposes only"

Ill give my opinion here. I don't mind the show diggers at all....they were pilot episodes also...remember that.....as for the show american diggers on spike....that's the show that will damage this hobby. The entire show is a lie. They are a bunch of meat heads who have no business representing our hobby......its a joke. I don't view the guys on ng this way.
