Did I just wast my money??

Brand new to this hobby. I just bought a Prism V, Friday. From the posts on here it appears I just wasted a good chunk of change. Be honest, I can take it. If I need to upgrade to enjoy my new hobby, I will. Maybe I can use it to learn with, then upgrade after I get profecient. I'm a bit upset. I didnt find this site until after my purchase, thats how my luck goes.

Find a distributor that knows the business. They can usually suggest one that will work good in your area for the right price. You can buy anything that
doesn't operate properly right out the box. Make yourself a test bed in your yard, metal, copper/silver coins , other stuff people might drop or throw down. You must
learn your detectors ability's. You need this bed so you can check for proper operation before you might drive 2 hours to a site. Some distributors will give you a trade
in on a different model. Try Kellyco.com or some other, they are experienced and helpful. you just hit a bump in your learning process. Your on the right track.
Good luck.

The M6 is not much more $ than the PV. The M6 is twice the detector the PV is. Also more coils to chose from. But it's over a pound heavier.

Thanks fellas. I sure do read alot on the forum of the M6. I hate to start off with something substandard. I do need to learn the limits of the one I have. I can see me upgrading soon.

My wife calls me much worse. Here are just some. Addicted, crazy and ate up are a few. Now here is her best line "Why do you need another detector?!!" I don't even hear her any more. I just crank my discrimination up and I can't hear a thing! Don't let you wife read this!

It's not that the Prism V is a bad machine. It is actually a very good machine. It's more a matter of value. The PrismV lists for 550.00 but you can get an M6 for 595.00 and the M6 is a big step up for a little more cash. I know the M6 lists for 699.95 but if my dealer can sell them new for 594.95 then they all can. Plop down the cash and I bet you walk out with it.

Hey khouse,

What you said about cranking up the discrimination is Funny. The other day i went to the bank to cash a postal money order from a recent used detector sale and a teller my wife and i know very well asked in jest if my wife knew i was cashing these. I laughed and said .... NO

You have to be careful out there!!! I have made a cash deal or two so there is no paper trail. No need for everyone (wife) to know.

Maybe be YOUR wife. My wife knows what each detector looks like and would recognize a "stranger"..LOL

No. The Prizm will serve you right as an entry level machine.
If you want the bells and whistles you'll have to go further up the
Whites chain. The Prizm does what its supposed to do: find stuff.
Enjoy the machine.

Thanks for all the input. I cannot take it back where I bought it from........Hobby store...............no refunds on MD's. I am going to Myrtle Beach in a couple months to visit family. I found a Whites dealer there and am going to upgrade to the M6. I believe this is the model best suited for my wants at this time, coin hunting. Looking fwd to getting on the beach with it. Thanks again. Wonderful forum!!

Even kids with Radio Shack machines find "treasure", so just plan on putting in some time on the hobby. Upgrade if you feel the need, but No, you didn't waste your money. Good luck hunting.

I recently bought a basically new Prizm IV. I have an MXT and several Tesoros so I have something to compare to. The weather hasn't been good here so I haven't been able to get out and give a good test run yet, but in air tests I'm favorably impressed. I think it will turn out to be a fun, capable machine. Give your Prizm a fair try before you condemn it, I think you may be pleasantly surprised.

Well, talk to the new dealer and Call Whites and tell them the dealer you bought the MD from won't
take the machine back. That might put some pressure on him/her. Can't believe the person you bought it from wants any bad PR.
Maybe WHites out of Sweet Home will take it back since you haven't used it yet? Give it a try. Whites customer service is
usually the best out there.
Good Luck.

I'm also "tone deaf " to her tone of voice. HEHE

I just bought another detector. I told her that I was testing it out for someone. I'm the "someone" and I will be testing it out! If I find I don't like it I'll have to sell it and test another!
