DFX vs XLT

Jack..What did you not like about the F-75 ???Not asking you to trash it
just wondering..I like you have very good results with an XLt..so we may have the same taste or close to same style of hunting. Just wondered what you didn't like. I traded for one but it malfunctioned when it got here.Trader immediately took it back so I never got a chance to try it.

Hey Elton: Of course the main thing I did not like was the 11" coil only. If and when they come out with smaller coils maybe I will try it again. My hunting buddy seems to really like his. What I did like is where they put the nickels in the coin range with a high tone. I liked the adjustable tones.

Hey Elton: Like you there are times when I feel like a newbe. At times I enjoy diggings clad. Not memorial pennies. That is what I like about the XLT. Easy to tell clad dimes from memorial pennies. That way I only dig clad dimes and quarters and hopefully Halves. At 74 years old I don't get up and down that well. The Explorer I only hunt with the 5" coil. Standard coil too heavy.....Jack

Thanks Jack.Like I said, machine malfunctioned out of box, never tried another but have thought about it..from reading some of the posts and seeing how fast some get traded you either love it or hate it.

I can relate too the getting up and down Sir !!!

Same results for me as Jack, except I always would ignore the numbers with either machine.
Bought a DFX, tried it for several months, sold it, won another. Thought things had moved on with a DFX forum, stacks of books etc. Tried all the suggestions including the off the wall ones and still the machine came second to the XLT (except on wet sand).
So the second DFX got sold.

Just which I had kept my original Spectrum as that was even better than my XLT.

I just got back from a coin hunting trip. I switched detectors.
Used my friends DFX................I was much surprised..it was very different than the one I had.It was very stable, numbers locked on, and
it went deep..No great finds, just coins.I still like my XLT best..it's right for me.I was impressed with the DFX though..It worked really well
and was very good on target response..Correct reading on 89% of the digs I made.Would I trade my XLT..No, would my friend trade his DFX..no
The detector did function very well, and was about as close to my XLt as
anything I have ever used.My point is something was different about his DFX than the one I owned..if mine had worked like his I might still be using it.Or if I would have had him set it up I might still be using it.
It worked very well.

Something seems different !!!

I am new to to this and will be purchasing a metal detector in the next two weeks and i am torn between the XLT & DFX what do yall suggest? I travel all over U.S. with my job so i will get to try everything in all areas . I need to know what detector to get and additional search coils to purchase i will be getting everything at one time so dont tell me to try it out first everything is being purchased by someone else so i am getting everthing at one time so i wont have any out of pocket for a while.i am however technical saavy so dont worry about about learnig curve just the better detector and additional search coils. Thanks your help will be greatly appreciated...txdiver

You posted right in the middle of discussion about DFX and XLT. Both good machines. Read the post. Maybe they can shed some light on your decision.

If he is all over...maybe DFX because it can hunt Gold better.

Go for the DFX.......Standard coil, small coil and maybe a 12" coil to start..Then you can add one here and there as you go.Check out detecting equipment forum lots of good used coils come up.
