Hi all, it's been a while since I've been on the forum so Hello all!

I've run into an interesting issue.....

I just updated my Deus-1 with the latest. My custom programs are written down so I took my notes and D1 controller to work and programmed it.
When I got home to do further air test adjustments on specific targets, I found the speaker was no longer working on the controller. I'm guessing it's a software glitch from programming the D1 at work without the coil present.
However, during air testing, I am now getting a mercury dime at 13 inches with the 11" coil. I don't remember ever getting that depth before in air-tests on the D1.

I unboxed the Deus-2 and played with it a while. Then I did side by side testing with the Deus-1. The D1 bested the D2 in multi-frequency by 3-4 inches depending on the target.
I set the D2 for single frequency 4KHz and my D1 at 4KHz still outperformed the D2 by 2 inches on the dime. (The D2 sensed the dime at 11 inches/D1 sensed it at 13 inches).

D2 in single frequency should perform as good or better than the D1 with the same parameters IMO.

So, can anybody shed some light as to why this might be happening?
Maybe your own air test comparison between the two?
Is 13 inches on a dime in air testing abnormal? Do I have an abnormally hot D1 now?
 
Ism, you would think the single frequency in the D2 would be as good as the single frequency in the D1. However in my opinion, if you bought a D2, then don't even bother worrying about single frequency test results. The D2 is of course a multifrequency machine and outperforms the D1 in just about every scenario. If you are interested in using single frequencies, stick with the D1 because you would be wasting the advantages and performance of the D2 and it's MF platform. I recommend you do what I did and forget about your D1 and learn the D2. It is a completely different machine.
 
How dya do air tests?I do em with coil facing the sky so no ground effects and get fantastic depth on d2 ..machine is upturned …
 
Lodge Scent, I wasn't sure if my D1 had a software glitch that was somehow making it run hotter than normal. That in turn made me compare apples for apples with the D2.
I saw a video of an in ground test where the D2 clearly bested the D1, I expected it to compare in air testing, I saw opposite results.
I went outside in my yard. I have various coins that have been out there for over 10 years at depths up to 10 inches. It's neutral sandy soil.
it's been cold so I didn't stay out long, but in audio detection, the D1 performed as well as the D2 (which was in multi-frequency). However, the D2 ID'd at greater depth and target audio response was different.
I have no problem with that, it's to be expected with multi-frequency.

I'm hoping to get out in the next couple days. It's supposed to warm up a little. There I will compare both in the field.
I'm not knocking the D2, I'm just bewildered at "my" D1 outperforming it in the audio detection of the same target.

Targis, horizontal. The plastic disc on the wooden dowel slides effortlessly in and out and I can rock it back and forth across the detection field.
I have the target mounted with tape on the plastic ear (upper LH corner) I don't like the freehand method; it leaves a lot of room for error.
I had just updated my D1 to v5.21 so I had to re-install my custom programs.
I use it to set up expert disc tones and notch and optimum settings in air before I hit the field. There I can tweak my program to the environment.

I like your test set up Ism. I suspect once you get out in the field a bit more you'll see the D2 outperforming the D1. Even though I was very proficient with the D1, it took me a while to get comfortable with the D2. I am still learning, that is for sure. I will say that I have pulled a lot of goodies with the D2 from sites that I pounded with the D1 over the years including some really deep coppers that I couldn't get with the D1 even with the 11" coils. The D2 is especially great at sniffing out deep iron masked targets.

I got out for 2 hrs yesterday in an iron infested farm field where I've found deep targets with the D1. I am extremely proficient with the D1 and love it in iron infested farm fields.
The D1 was the first detector that really impressed me right out of the box. It lived up to all the advertised hype, so I had no problem prying open my wallet and purchasing a D2.
However, I'm not so impressed with the D2, it reminds my of my Minelab Sovereign. I hated the Sovereign in Iron. Too much falsing and had to really slow down to a crawl in iron.

I have my D1 set at reactivity (2) and pull deep targets from the same iron infested field and get about 1/4 the iron falsing as I got with the D2.
With the D1, I can distinguish if it's something worth investigating or passing it over. About 60-70% of the time I dig and find it's a non-ferrous target next to a rusty square nail.
But I just couldn't acclimate myself to what the D2 was telling me yesterday with reactivity at (2). I spent a lot of time evaluating the target then finally dug only to find it was a rusty nail.

Now I have to say that when I got over a shallow non-ferrous target, it was obvious to dig, but those deeper questionable targets (some even gave a repeatable ID), were always iron.
Today I will try a factory program to see if it's any better and what setting they use to quiet the iron falsing if it proves to be any better.
 
I feel your pain Ism. I miss not even having to think about what the D1 was telling me. The D2 makes me work. It would be like that for any new machine though. The iron falsing is the biggest negative with the D2. Drove me nuts at first, it's still an irritation. I have to believe that XP will do something about that in the next upgrade. But trust me, just stay with it and you will find that the advantages of the D2 make up for its shortcomings. To get around the iron falsing, I use the Bottle Cap reject. It will reduce the falsing on the deeper larger iron. Silencer helps with the smaller surface iron. Park mode uses those filters. I rarely used any filters with the D1 but using them with the D2 has helped me find stuff the D1 missed. When using Deep HC I use 5 tones and assign a tone to 85-87. It helps a lot.
 
Thanks Lodge. I will certainly explore the other program options like bottle cap reject. Many commenters on the YT videos claimed the D2 was even quieter in iron than the D1.
I plan to run it today while the weather is still good.

Well Guys, I discovered that I customized the wrong program in my D2, that's why I'm having so much difficulty in iron.
Things might work better now.
