Detectors on aircraft

A friend of mine is going to South Vietnam and wants to take his detector with him. Are there any restrictions on taking a detector (stowed baggage) on a commercial airline. Dose he need prior approval? How about restrictions once he gets there? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You can put them in checked baggage, some let you bring onboard, but they will check them out close.. dont know about the laws in Viet Nam though

Make sure you take your Batteries out first however. We were terribly embarrassed when the detector somehow turned on in handling and over the PA the ticket person paged us to tell us to report to baggage because something was "vibrating" in our baggage. My wife was NOT happy.

just got back from california with my detector. had no problem getting on plane with detector. I placed mine in the overhead compartments as the stowed stuff gets tossed around pretty bad. hh jim p mi
