Detectorists TV Program

Over here in England a new program started last night on BBC 4 called 'Detectorists' about a metal detecting club, As it was the first episode it was quite obvious that it was/is tongue in cheek, or in other words a light hearted series about metal detecting, I was wondering if anyone saw it or can receive it over in the US and what your views are on this type of program

I watched the program earlier this evening,my verdict is i really enjoyed it and certainly will watch the whole series, yes it is a light hearted look at detecting but also so much of it rang true,i have it set up to record the whole series and the big thing is it made me laugh looking at what some people see as a very sad pastime that we all love to do.

My overal view its enjoyable and i will watch it all the way through,it will be interesting to see what the last program will be like, will they or wont they find the holy grail, whats in the field the farmer does not want them to go on,its great the way they are building in plots for later on.We will just have to wait and see.

Trukedd,
far as i know its not available here in the States. But we do get BBC America over here, gonna check their listings and see if they broadcast the show.

We got our own version here called 'Diggers' with two goofy baboons doing summer saults 'n flips everytime they dig up a decent find . Don't get me started on that show!!
Little by little, those two idiots and their show is virtually destroying metal detecting here in the States.
So much for keeping metal detecting 'under the radar' which we have enjoyed for decades here up until now.

ironsight. Just watched the first episode of 'Diggers' with the Ringmaster and King George where they go to Judge Lobingers Homestead, Our version is much more laid back than that. I hope you are able to receive our version so you can see the comparison and maybe give me your views.

I have just noticed that the full first episode of 'Detectorists' is on youtube if anyone wishes to watch it.

I just watched it on Youtube and thoroughly enjoyed it . I like a good series and this looks like it has all the makings of one . The casting
is well done , the picture quality and sound is great . I saw Toby Jones in "Infamous" portraying Truman Capote and he did a great job .
As long as I can get this on Youtube I will be watching . I have a feeling this series is going to have a lot of twists and turns ( I like that ) .
Thank you for the heads up trukedd and your thoughts on it also Mega B .:clapping::thumbup::cheers:

I will check it out but the ones we have or had on our tv show's in the states here I watched them all for a few times . But i have not watched a metal detecting show on tv now for about 2 years .. They are stupid and make us look like fool's………….That diggers show is still on that show makes us look stupid .. To me the show diggers is more of a kids show …

Well trukedd i watched the first episode on Ytube and i'll tell you what, i actually enjoyed it, nothing like our a$$inine 'Diggers' show here in the States.
'Detectorists' portrays detecting as it really is.... pulltabs and the other downsides. Detecting is the main focus of the show but its also a side issue at times.
An added plus, its got some hot babes on that show too!

The only occassional problem i had is sometimes understanding the language over there in the UK.
Wish you all in the UK would speak English! LOL, Just kidding!
Looking forward to the next episode!

I watched Diggers once. The guys were looking for a Civil War cannon, and the next thing I know had a back hoe digging up a lawn for it. My wife asks me why I don't watch it and I say "it's not for the common detectorists and is all hype for ratings". Now if I was looking to dig up a 1951 Hudson Hornet, I might be insterested.

I don't think we get it on the east coast. The best show that I ever saw was the one sponsored by Whites, Treasure hunting America. I have no idea why it it is no longer on. I am looking forward to the upcoming Oak Tree Island episodes. I will check out the detectorists on youtube.

Guys, this show (Detectorists) is nothing like "Diggers". It's a sit-com, and very well done. Watched the first episode on youtube and I think most will enjoy it. One of the lead actors is a detectorist in real life and like someone said, he knows the quirks of the hobby.

Just watched it. :clapping: I thought it was funny but a bit dry.

If you you watched it on Youtube you where one of the last ones to see it . Unfortunately , the poster has removed it . I was looking to see if episode 2 was on yet . I was really disappointed to see it gone . I hope the series continues in Britain and possibly comes out in DVD form .

Yeah it was on youtube, bummer they removed it. :(

Now we will have to wait until it is out on DVD . It will only be viewable on BBC until then . It's supposed to be released Nov. 10 but you are going to have to make sure it is on a DVD that can be played in your region .Example :US + Canada is 1 NTSC . For more details on this
look under "detectorists" in the BBC section . The Brits are able to watch episodes 1+2 presently . There will be a total of 6 episodes in the series . I'll have to console myself by watching " Boardwalk Empire" .

HI Detectorists. From an Educational point of view you could always try this. Type in your search box 'Watch Detectorists online' and try one of the other players that come up, Wishing you succsess and Best Regards to you all.

I thought the opening scene of the 2nd episode was a bit of brilliant writing and really hope you get to see it, entitled Simon and Garfunkel.
