Detector Bashing

JUST IN CASE, I'm MISUNDERSTOOD, THE ABOVE GOOD OLD FASHION TRUTH IS MY TRUTH................ MY OPINION...........................MERRY CHRISTMAS.......................................Joe.

hey ron, yer right we shouldnt bash detectors - man i bet its cold up in michigan right now - it might be a good time for research,eh? 37 years mding is impressive! here in central va. [ below richmond ] its about 35 degrees, cant wait to get out again! i will soon post some pix of cw relics and old coinage - i gotta talk my wife into it, i can never remember how to do it. to be honest, i really dont want a machine that i have to dig more than a foot, so the machines i have fit my needs well...something else to think about. yall have a good xmas, and thanx, hh

My first one was a Metrotech and I found a ton of goodies. Course way back then you could practically scoop the coins up with a shovel. :)

Gray Ghost,Merry Christmas,My brother Mark was a radio DJ in Roanoke the Sam and Mark Chainsaw show rock and roll classic music.Anyway he went to Richmond about five years ago the show only lasted a year or so until they got cancelled. The ground in Michigan is like concrete. Its a good time for research. My parents retired around Bedford VA,which I use to visit often until my dad died.Good Luck with your winter hunt.

I think another reason to cease bashing other brands is that
every so often a newbie joins the website, this one or some other,
pleased as punch that he/she finally
bought a detector and is ready to go out and have fun. Many
times it's a Bounty Hunter or one of those Chinese detectors.
What could be worse than getting on the forum and hearing others
refer to their brand new purchase as a piece of junk. Kind of hits one in
the gut, hard. If they already bought it, let them find out for themselves
if they like it or not. And besides, even Garrett and FIsher isn't immune to
to such remarks. The fact is, all these detectors work to some degree
or another.

Realizing money has been wasted on a poorly performing device and pawning it off on someone else to buy a decent MD.

People that constantly make decisions without consulting others are not thin skinned for long.
Foolishness hurts, and I can prove it!:)

I must be a do-gooder by trying to help people so they do not become misled or frustrated, and give up this great hobby.

A spade, is a spade.

"muffler on a stick look"

Yeah, after first getting into the hobby years ago I visited another MDing Forum's (not this one) chat section & was soon joined by a group of others. When one asked what detector i had I got the response "Oh, he's one of those". I inquired what they were talking about & was told that people who used the brand I used typically were quite obstinate about its prowess in an almost cult-like way . As a guy first starting out it kinda threw me for a loop to get that type a response. Only years later I realized that a lot of this forum's members used the brand of detector the forum owner uses & not the brand I used (In fact.... the forum owner has an odd hatred of this brand because of some past issues) and purposely does not have a forum section for this brand (while having sections for almost all other popular brands) .

That was my first starter detector. Same model. It worked quite well for the price .... I found my first silvers with that machine! And they werent shallow. I used it for months before deciding I wanted something a little more substancial/challenging with more bells & whistles.

It was a great starter detector for me!

Also wanted to point out that their customer service was pretty impressive. I inquired about the cost of a new lower shaft (because I had accidentally stepped on it & broke it) & they sent me a new one for free!

Some dealers bash competetors products.

That's where a lot of the hype comes from,

I ran into a pair of nice fellows yesterday who had just bought a muffler on a stick at a local discount sporting goods store.

They were fully aware it was a discount offering as one of them had owned a quality Whites MD years back.
If the only MD available were $3,500 ML, how many of US would be in the hobby?
They were both enjoying themselves and digging as many targets as I was.

Elsewhere, a newbie spoke of an underwater machine that was very inexpensive on the Bigbay.
I went over and looked at it... It was advertised as a Professional tool tested to 235ft depth and normally retailed for $800 but you could purchase from this seller for a mere $300 or so...
IMO, what some may call bashing would hopefully help prevent aspiring folks from being misguided.

Here's the family park at "the Castle" we were hunting... it was a nice afternoon to be outside... We stay away from that castle!

You are correct Sir..that wasn't my point. My point was one hears a lot of negatives on Bounty Hunter products. It seems to me they work just fine. (That was my point)

After searching with a DFX and Exp II I went back over the area with a used GTI 2000 and pulled a 3 cent silver at 8" that for some reason the other two missed. All three have some issue's but I would not part with any of them.

By golly this is a fun thread!

This evening, I went to the muffler shop just to see what was going on there.

Nice young lady greeted me as I entered, but the young fellows were too busy goofing off to pay any attention to the likes of me.

Boy do they offer a selection! Got 3 prominently displayed, hanging from the ceiling and at least 7 different models and it appeared, 3 manufacturers. They run from a $90 super special to $300 for a guaranteed underwater model.

I was particularly interested in the one that said on the box, "Only this brand has patented ATZ-37 technology."

Picture on another box showed a nice young family with Dad showing a ring to them he had found with the MD.
I thought that was interesting, because the MD display was in the middle of an airsoft gun display and the airsoft gun boxes didn't show grumpy families shooting at each other... See? Nice families get the gold!

I'd really like to get an underwater MD and wanted to demo that model, but the young men were to busy goofing with each other to assist the likes of me... (I had just come from a couple hours flailing at the earth, muddy knees and all...)

All told, it's been a long time that I lived in a town with a merchant presenting such a display of MDs. They were not limited to a muffler on a stick. They had a tube on a stick, a plastic lunchbox&handle, and a teardrop pod on a crank. Some had digital displays, and some had needles. Some even came with batteries!

What fun!
Soon, there just might be a whole new wave of folks involved in metal detecting!
