Are you seeing all the great finds being posted with the ATpro/gold machines? Want to find some of that nice jewelry? Well it seems that most of the ATpro/gold users are hunting in either zero mode or with some iron discrimination. Really this is key to finding the jewelry. Your not going to get those surprise finds running in coin mode or even high coin only disc. This is not a new method of hunting. Sure if you have little time to hunt crank up the disc to cherry pick some cash and maybe that silver ring. But each time you go over an area keep reducing your disc to where you've cleaned out everything but the iron. I usually start out in zero mode digging everything but iron. Then as I get tired and sore I'll increase the disc to go back to cherry picking. You are missing most all the gold and other hidden goodies by always running in coin mode or higher. There is GOLD in the foil and tab notches! Like I said this isn't a new concept so it's mostly for the newbies. Get the most out of your machine - reduce your discrimination. Good hunting to all.

That's why I always end up digging tabs and foil to keep from missing anything worthwhile. I sure would be happy to find some gold. One of these days it's going to happen.

Sometimes I empty my pouch out and it's full of tabs. My wife asks me if I was looking for rings? She's a smart one! Once you find a gold ring in the tab or foil range it's hard to walk away from those beeps. I find myself going back and digging up the pull tabs.

i like rings  do what you got to do

Yep. I've found some nice things in the foil/tab ranges...not often enough...but enough to keep me coming back. You dig a bunch of tabs and safety seals from juice bottles but it only takes one nice ring to make youir day

MrGee

I've ALWAYS said the Relics mode is the most awesome mode on my Ace. In tot lots, like you, I sometimes go to all metal.'

Just a sad fact. I'll pick my places to foil hunt, but some places it's becomes just too much for me. Anyway not counting trash I've dug over 6000 pieces of clad this yr. About 11 silver rings and [ 2 ] pieces of gold, a ring and a medallion. I try to dig any good sig. around a nickle regardless. Fact is, as far as gold goes, I just plain suck.

Keep digging

I have found also the "tot lot gold" has been depleted. Due to the prices and probably more hunters on those sacred grounds. I can't wait until the few beaches I hunt replenish. But it will mostly be junk and stainless steel jewelry.

You want GOLD...forget the tot lot chips, stones, etc...Hit the area just outside the actually tot lot in the grass...
A tot lot will be the first thing MOST traveling detectorists will see and hit...

HH,

A few tips that increases finds keep the coil low to the ground keep the disc low if not your missing the gold, swing slow, be patience, and a good set of headphones , I haven't used a metered unit in years until my son got his ace250, so I tried it out of course the three tones are great I used the allmetal with the tones and I was blown away,, only use the coin mode when running out of time, so make your custom mode just another AM mode, hope it helps, HHH

You got that right. But I still have some success in the bark and gravel. Just not as much as years past.

Khouse you brought up a great subject that is overlooked a lot thanks, hope I didn't barge in on it, the info can help us all, thank you, HHH , the bark and gravel been thin here too!

Or you can do as I do, make customs mode another coins mode, but add the foil icon. Then, in high tab areas, you STILL have a chance to find some small gold.

Great idea Slingshot! Helpful info on here for sure !

Just hit a large gravel play area. No jewelry but some zincs and a couple of dimes. I guess I'll have to pay for Christmas the old fashion way. Return everything! LOL
