My daughter is a city police officer and my son-in-law is a county deputy sheriff. They are way to damn busy with real crap to worry about somebody detecting somewhere. I spent 25 years as a reserve deputy for a major county and never saw or heard of anyone being concerned about people metal detecting. Again, there was way to much stuff going on to have the time to bother with minutia like that. Now! I live on the West Coast. Might be a totally different attitude around here about live and let live.
Might want to use a Lesche or a Predator tool instead of a K-Bar. They say, "For Digging Only" right on them. That's another reason to use one of those instead of a bayonet. You can use your pencil as a weapon also and you don't need a permit for it.
Glad in a previous post somebody called an officer on their BS about being arrested. Cops all know that their bluff can only go so far and they are well aware of being sued for false arrest. Besides, unless it's some small hick town with nothing else to do, they don't want to hassle with the paperwork and all connected to an arrest. A coupon for free donuts is still the best idea!
