I was saving for an Omega. Went to Academy for a few items and seen the Delta for 249.00.....in a moment of weakness I purchaced it......so far I really like it. I realize the omega is a higher end machine, but is there really that much difference between the two? I was really wanting the omega but so far am pleased with the delta....I guess I just need some conformation. ......Can you use a bigger coil than the 8" that came with it?

I have been using the delta for 6 months now and have really enjoyed it
I found an 1918 standing liberty that was 8 inches deep in some very dry soil the other day.

I had the Omega and my wife has the Delta. She loves her Delta and I loved my Omega. She was finding just about as much as I was. The Omega can be more fine tuned and gives a lot more info on the ground. So I feel you will be happy with your Delta but you may want to upgrade in a couple of years if you really start getting into detecting.

Shouldn't affect the ID at all. You probably will get some more depth, and cover more ground faster.
My Delta is deep enough for me with the 8" coil, as I hunt public parks, and one of my principals is
that I don't attempt to recover anything deeper than I can get with a screwdriver.

(None of our parks are old enough to hold any silver, and with our hard heavy clay soil, nothing sinks very far anyway)

For $249 a new delta is a very good buy. For their segment of the market I think they are probably one of the best. I know I like it and those I let use it also are impressed.

Yes, there is a difference. The Delta, like the lower-end Alpha and next step up Gamma, comes with the 8" coil and many find it easier to pinpoint with than even the 10" elliptical, even though it is also a concentric design. The Delta is not only a very good detector for you to use now, and in the future, but when you get to the point to 'upgrade' to an Omega the Delta will be a good back-up unit. A good 'loaner' unit for a family member or friend or to let a property owner use when you access their land to hunt.

So, are the Gamma and Omega, both steps up from the Delta, "better" higher-priced models? Yes, for those who prefer to be able to adjust the Ground Balance for peak performance in a variety of hunting conditions. Additionally, those models provide more Audio Tone ID options than the Delta. Additionally, you can fine-tune the Discriminate level with them rather than reject a full TID segment at a time as you do with the Delta.

On a positive note, if you have the Delta with the screw-on connector, it will share coils with the Gamma and Omega.

There is the 10" elliptical concentric coil and the 11" BiAxial Double-D that are larger, and the round 5" D-D for a smaller coil

As a rule the VDI and TID read-outs will be very similar to very close, but not necessary exact. Both my 11" and smaller 5' DD coils produce slightly (just a little) difference in TID/VDI read-out on some targets I am looking for. The difference, however, isn't a major issue with me because it is close and I hunt with no discrimination most of the time, listen for the low iron-target audio and then analyze the good target hits. I compare what I get to the site I am hunting and what I'm after and then recover is desired. in ghost towns and homesteads and older-use sites I recover almost all good (non-iron) targets (unless they are very large), but in urban parks and schools and such I rely more on the audio response and Target ID info to make the decision with.

Enjoy your Delta! They work far better than many might expect.

His Bounty Hunter bit the dust and I gave him a Minelab Advantage but he misses the TID and depth gauge. I'm a bit worried about our minerlized ground and not being able to a least adjust the GB to our ground. Thanks!

We have similar ground and while some makes/models suffer from a too negative GB in the Disc. mode, I haven't found that to be the case with the Delta. I just worked with a few fellows a week ago Saturday, and then my oldest (39 soon) son yesterday. He's been using nothing but his pristine IDX Pro w/6

The main thing I need to teach him is that I can't go detecting everyday. He's wearing me out! I've been looking for something lightweight, simple to use with decent depth so it sounds like the Delta will be a good choice. I can pick one up locally for a good price.
