Deleon erratic

Ok, i won't bash , though i'll put my two cents in. I have owned three difft. deleons and while i never had the falsing problems with any as far as the op has had, i can say this. Even though there was night and day difference in the machines. I guess my point is, as with all electronics, you can have the same machine but i doubt whether any two are exactly the same. I have bought new machines and not been impressed with them, sold them thinking not my cup of tea. Only to try a different one down the road and find it to be totally opposite. So,,,,we can all argue about what the problem is, but it just may be one of "those" detectors......jmo

I don't know why all the veiled and not-so-veiled bashing of Monte, I guess it's safe to say he won't win any popularity contests in Nova Scotia...

Perhaps someone's problem with a Deleon isn't what Monte thought it was.

I'll still put my money on Monte over anybody here who argues with him despite having a tiny fraction of his knowledge.

Monte, so many of us have learned so much from you. Please don't let a few newbies and occasional posters discourage you from posting all you want whenever you want about whatever you want!

Let me start by saying that I still consider Tesoro one of the top detector manufacturers out there. I have since I first used one of their Deep Search VLT/TR's, and especially since I started using and dealing in Tesoro's in 1983. I have never been a 100% fan of EVERY model that ANY manufacturer makes because I like to have ample operator control that I can get good, functional performance in a wide variety of hunting environments. Not all models by all of them can do that.

Some think I am a total fan of White's since I mention them frequently. Yes, I am a fan, of MANY White's models, but not all of them. For those that follow many of my White's product discussions through the years know this as well. One reason I make use of a few White's models more than other makes and models since about 1990, especially, is because I feel that have generally been producing some of the best models with visual Target ID.

In my way of thinking, there are a few models that I consider to be the ones by which I compare all others. These change from time to time as manufacturers bring us new and exciting and good-performing new models. For example, in the White's product line I used to rely on the 5900 DI Pro SL as the better Target ID model to compare other TID's. That has changed through the years and the XLT is the one I rely on to compare all the rest with the multi-array of adjustment features. Few are better.

The 5900 Di Pro gave way to the XL Pro which I consider to be the best all-purpose Target ID model that isn't all quirky digital, and batter than most of those that are! But I also figure the White's MXT to be the more current-concept TID model when I compare all-around performance (audio and visual) of any detector. I especially like to compare any model with an auto-tracking circuitry against the MXT.

For TID models that are designed as a dedicated slow-motion, 2-filter type detector, I usually rely on a modified White's IDX Pro as the model by which I compare others. A Classic ID or an IDX Pro, unmodified, make good models to compare with the likes of the turn-on-and-go Bounty Hunters, Fishers, Garrett's and Tesoro's that feature Target ID. This brings me to the DeLe

I am in total agreement with Monte's last post. Even the info on White's detectors. I use the White's MXT as well as three different Tesoro's, obviously including the DeLeon. I feel that the MXT is superior in depth, performance, TID info, etc in almost every way as compared to the DeLeon. However, my surgically repaired shoulder can only take a short time of swinging the MXT. Hence, the search for a quality, lightweight detector with TID. Enter the DeLeon.

I have always loved the lightweight, quality, customer service, etc of Tesoro. I can swing the D for hours and the more I use it, the more I get to know it's language (as with all detectors). Overall, I'm pretty happy with the D, BUT, I do feel it could be made substantially better with MGB in both modes or auto tracking. For me, the D was a compromise between the best traits of the MXT and Tesoro, with weight being the main factor. I still feel the D is a much better and cheaper alternative than the Cortes. I just don't see the advantages of the Cortes over the D for the price difference. I would really like to see Tesoro come out with a Kick A$$ TID with some or all of the features that have been discussed in other threads. I would purchase one tomorrow, sight unseen, if it had the right features!

I also watch the reviews of the Fisher F75/Teknetics T2 and it seems to be a very lightweight, good TID machine with good depth, but the build quality just doesn't do it for me and I'm partial to Tesoro. I'll live with the D and be a happy camper, but come on Tesoro. Build us a great TID with all the fixins and watch the sales sky rocket!!!!

ohp800max - I have to pretty much agree with you right down the line. I like the capability of the MXT, but the weight of the D is very compelling for longer hunts. Not having used the Cortes I can't speak from experience, but see where you're coming from. Ironically, I did some detecting yesterday with my Silver Sabre
