Deepest Tesoro on silver coins

I own 3 machines and i have a use & place for each one.I have a Minelab Sovereign,,A Tesoro Cortes & a Whites Surfmaster Dual Field..I do a lot of Beach Hunting and can use all 3 for the Beach .If i have been to the same Beach say 3 times through that week i will go back Monday morning and use my Tesoro Cortes.I have already checked the beach so on Monday i'm not looking to go really deep and the Cortes is good for 9" anyway. The Cortes is like swinging a feather compaired to the Minelab Sovereign with a 15" CoilTek (WOT) Coil..If i am going to a New spot to hunt,,Beach or Feilds i take the Sovereign because it has reached 19"inches deep for me..There are some guys on YouTube getting depths of 21" Plus inches.. The Whites Surfmaster i use for water..I remember when i first tried the Cortes after owning the Sovereign for a few years..I was at a park hunting and i had a grin on my face because it was so light.!..I couldn't believe the weight and how good it would pinpoint and hit silver..I would reccomend the Cortes or Tesoro to anyone,,No one has a Machine in that price range and a Lifetime Warranty.!!..I'd like to see Tesoro or an aftermarket place make a few larger coils to see if it was possible to get a bit more depth..I am really happy with Tesoro......John

the difference between the two machines as AI understand it is that the V and C have More gain. But just like driving at night in fog. More sometimes can mean less.
So while in clean soil the V and C can go deeper. The outlaw can get between and around those things that mask the good targets.

I hope you're right JG. Im going to take this sucker out to a pretty trashy but fairly old (1921) park tomorrow and see if I can apply all of my new-found wisdom to find a piece of silver or maybe an old penny or two.

Dig the heck out of some clad and really learn your machine....I mean be able to call out what you are gonna dig before you dig it and be right....most of the time.

Then put yourself in a place that is older and hasnt been pounded to death by other detectors....and then you will run your coil across a silver or a wheat or even an indian...thats when all that practice will pay off...because your ears will be trained....and when that first silver pops up...its a magical moment.

Ya gotta pay your dues...gotta know the sweet sounds...and then just a matter of research.

Best of luck to you!

Put the 5.75 on the V and you'd be surprised what it can get around while still maintaining great depth

As others have said, the vast majority of silver coins you find will not be that deep. Sure, you will run into the very deep one once in a while, but any Tesoro you get or use will be more than adequate. The last 11 silvers I've found this year were 5 inches or less.
Get out there and have fun.

Hey Mojotrout what happened at the park the next day or how has the Outlaw been since? I might be ordering an Outlaw tomorrow.

I dug a buffalo nickel last week at a one room school site that was the length of my pro pointer plus 4 inches..I think that was the deepest coin I have ever dug. I was using my Golden U Max.

I don't recall what I found that next day -- that post was over a year ago. I dont own the Outlaw anymore as I found my Silver uMax was just as good in my ground and my hunting style.

Thanks for replying i actually ordered the Outlaw and the Silver, they might be here tomorrow. Ill have the cleansweep coil on the Silver and the 10x12 on the Outlaw.

Lawbambam,
You will enjoy the outlaw, I think it is a great machine and nice sounding tone. Just be sure to start it up in all metal auto mode then switch to disc, if you do not then it can be detuned and you will lose depth.

Thanks for the tip ToneTime. I didnt know that and I hope i dont forget lol. Im hoping to get out this weekend somewhere if it doesnt rain but thats all that is in the forcast.

I'll throw a kudos to the Deleon into this discussion. I'm finding it's depth to be impressive, no less than my Vaquero. I've found my 3rd silver(this year) with it last night. However, any of my Tesoros would have found it if the coil passed over. I don't believe the real issue with finding silver is depth. I believe it's 90% location and 10% luck.

You beat me to it. The Deleon on silver coins matches the depth of my Vaquero and Tejon. It's ID is pretty accurate as well.

I sold mine and I'm now looking for another one.

That is really impressive that the Deleon is getting that kind of depth. With it being uMax based, I would have never guessed that. I wonder what Tesoro is doing different in the Deleon vs. the Silver uMax?

Best I've ever done on depth is with a Cibola and vaquero. My Cibola hit 2 quarters at 15 and 18'' at the dry to wet sand beach in ocean city Maryland.

Masking and depth are both major obstacles to finding silver and other old coins. The deeper the coin, the more susceptible it is to being masked.

Over the years, I've read a lot of people say things along the lines of "most silver is found at six inches or less." And that's a true statement. But the reason is detector capability, not because that's where most silver is.

There's no magic carpet that causes coins to stop sinking at a certain depth. Assuming no obstacles like a tree root, a coin will stop sinking when it reaches the level in the soil that is compacted enough to equal the density of the coin.
