Deep On... What is your experience with it?

Excellent discussion topic and info! Both the "Deep on" and the noise cancelling frequency information. Until now I have only used the auto noise canceling feature. After reading this I did some experimenting over coins I placed on the surface, however, that method does not work well. For one reason, my CTX does not air test very well, only 5-6 inches, and it is not an accurate test method by any means.

I was able to discern some differences in how different noise cancelation settings affected how well a given target signaled but I am definately going to be doing some field testing on deeper targets using various N.C. settings whenever my coil swings over a deep target, as suggested by Gatekeeper!

This thread is the first time I came across information on using noise cancellation and its relationship to potentially increasing (or decreasing) the depth capability of our machines, but given the fact I've only owned mine since the end of October I guess that's no surprise.

Thanks to INSAYN for posting the original question of the "deep on" topic, I've been wondering about its capabilities too.

Also thank you Gatekeeper for sharing your experiences with noise cancellation with us! I think I'll search around to find out all I can about these features, any info on methods and features that helps get better depth and accuracy gets a big welcome
mat at my door!

Great topic and thread!

I've tried to occasionally use Deep On in areas that may have deep targets, but I have no idea if it is actually helping or just keeping it the same. I run Fast On pretty much all the time, so I'm wondering if these two selections may counter each other. In the areas where I suspect deep older targets, my swing speed is "turtle slow".

What is your experience using Deep On?

To much gain boost. Dont like it myself.

There are more subtle little tricks that have been found to gain even more depth (up to 20%). But we will talk about that later. :yikes:

Little tricks that give 20% depth increase!!?? Now we're talking, it is later now right? Lets talk about this!!!! :bouncy:

I have done some testing with noise reduction since reading this thread, and I've noticed some subtle differences in how a target reacts to different settings, but not enough yet to form any concrete conclusions that tell me a certain noise frequency channel setting is definitely better than another yet. The tests continue. Now as for other "little tricks that can give up to 20% depth increase, I can only guess as I'm not yet experienced enough with my machine, but sure working at learning it. Bigger coil I'm told can add up to 20% depth, but I don't think you're talking about using a larger coil Gatekeeper, so something to point in the right direction would be very nice! I read something about my AT Pro when I was researching how to get more depth out of it, and there was something to turning on the machine with the coil 6-8 inches above the ground then doing a ground balance, not sure how effective that was or why it would help, I'm just fishin here racking my brains with my fingers as I type. Hopefully we won't have to wait Tooooooo long....

Me either Bart, I prefer between 20-24 on gain. I'm better able to tell deeper targets from shallow targets better from softer audio. Also manual noise cancel between 2-4 works best on an Etrac and seems to follow suit on the CTX!
