Deep nickel VDI numbers

There is little question many of the older spots still harbor nice numbers of nickels. And while the Nox does I d them very well...and at good depth, there are nice numbers of junk targets that fall into the good nickel tid range, too. Hence one is still going to dig the good with the bad. I just like my odds a little better with the Nox that Its going to be a nickel. HH jim tn
I agree… I have had great results with the Equinox at finding nickels.
I do find that sometimes the ID varies slightly from one site to another…. I’m thinking ground conditions cause this.

On the beach a nicklel "sized" target and a 13 reading usually produces a nickel. Never had any problem with deep nickels not reading a consistant 13.

I've found the Nox to be reliable on nickels. Yup 12/13 is the norm but just like many machines, if you want to be rewarded in the deep, your'e gonna have to stomach some TID variability and listen to what the tone tells you.

13-14 can be gold too

Ya'll better be digging nickles. I went back to an old church I've nailed before and previously found a Silver Reale. Decided to notch in 10-38, multi, and auto tracking. Had a hard hitting 11-12-13 and zeroed in on 12 as I pin pointed exactly where the target was an shortened my swing. It was a 1853 British Half Sovereign. 10 years and this was my first gold anything. I'm never taking nickles for granted again at old sites. Also pulled a pair of V Nickels and Buffalo in the same outing.

Was using the 6" coil, Park 1. It was at least 6" deep too.

Speaking of nickels, there is a old high school/park I frequent from time to time that still gives up the occasional wheat and old nickel. I was working a area a couple days ago with my 600 and got a bouncy hit with numbers all the way from 12/13 up to 25/26 and the target had a big feel to it. Didn't appear to be all that deep so I decided to see what it was. Cut a 6" or so round plug and from the first 4" of dirt I recovered 2 clad dimes and 2 zinc cents. Hmm I thought where was the nickel? Scanned the hole again and got a nickel tone. From 5-6" deep I recovered 3 buffalo nickels and a 44p war nickel. None of the 8 coins were stacked, but all within 5-6" of each other. Wonder what those of us that have hunted that area before (many times) thought that target was? HH jim tn

@jim tn that's a weakness in my game for sure. If it's deep and has a large footprint I generally leave it alone unless I'm on old ground and it's one of my go back spots where there isn't much left and I'm in the mood.

Once again you guy are missing it, 15 is usually a do not dig but i dig them all, last week a nice 14K gold band came up as a 15 and i dug it as usual, you can't count on 14,15 always being bottle caps

I don't think we "are missing it." We were discussing the tid of deep nickels. I know full well if I was to "dig them all," (all tid numbers) I truly would find more gold then I do. And also a lot more trash. I don't begrudge anyone that is willing to "dig them all." In fact, I applaud them. But that's a different subject then deep nickel tid. HH jim tn
